Description of Work This position is located at North Piedmont CRV Center Lexington, NC which houses approximately 136 female offenders who have committed technical violations of probation. The individual assigned to this position will directly report to the Administrative Officer I.

Salary Range: $32,639.00 - 57,117.00

The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of accounting task to support several processes in the areas of:

  • Accurately code purchases and upload information to the controller's office.
  • Maintain accurate and current records of all offender trust fund transactions, welfare fund, and special fund accounts. Ensure records are current, accurate, balanced and completed within a specific time frame for auditing purposes.
  • Communicate with vendors to resolve discrepancies such as billing errors or incomplete documentation.
  • Ensure purchases and corresponding invoices are compliant with established state policies and financial procedures.
  • Use a verification process for all transactions before approval for payment.
  • Prepare monthly reports to include preparation of canteen and bank reconciliation reports. Prepare money daily for deposit.
  • Plan and organize business management of the accounting office, including maintenance of records and ordering of supplies as needed.
  • Work with mailroom staff providing instruction and system support with the Offender Banking System. Receive "No Funds" letters from mailroom staff for sending home personal property upon arrival in the facility.
  • Comprehend and abide by policy, standard operating procedures, memoranda, and other directives, both written and verbal, governing daily activities.
  • Work under the direction of the Administrative Officer with minimal supervision. Must be able to perform all duties and others that may be assigned.
Management Preference:
  • Documented knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and practices.
  • Documented knowledge of the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS)
  • Documented knowledge of Microsoft Word and/or Excel
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with . Scheduled workdays and hours for this position would be Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business needs.

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate's degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution, or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
