Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Director of Elementary Education in accordance with WV State Code 18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and MCBOE Policy C.2.3, Performance Evaluation of School Personnel - Administrative Procedures
JOB SUMMARY:
The Academic Coach will be responsible for analyzing data and working with the school administration and staff in understanding assessment data in order to generate effective responses to the school/students' needs. Essential components to the position are the possession of substantive organizational skills and the ability to oversee/supervise the effective implementation of required state and county standards and assessments. This individual must be able to provide training to school staff in using formative assessments to enhance and engage student learning. The Academic Coach may not be used in any capacity which is not approved, in advance, by the Director of Elementary Education. Evaluation of the Academic Coach will be conducted by the Director of Elementary Education. .
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Maintain student confidentiality, adhering to FERPA guidelines.
+ Understand and communicate the purpose of various assessment instruments.
+ Collect baseline data for school in all grade levels.
+ Assist school staff with analyzing and interpreting data.
+ Plan for improvement using data-identified strengths and weaknesses.
+ Assist administrators and teachers with using formative assessments to adjust instruction and provide intervention/enrichment opportunities.
+ Encourage, coach, and monitor data-driven instruction and interventions by meeting with teachers and teacher teams.
+ Identify feasible best practices to increase data-driven instruction and intervention models for teachers
+ Identify a variety of instructional resources and methods to support the learning needs of students.
+ Model and coach administrators and teachers as they conduct data discussions with students.
+ Plan and conduct professional learning activities that focus on the use of data and assessment to enhance learning and collaborative instructional planning.
+ Collect action steps from the Schools' Strategic Plans from each grade level and ensure the instruction of the school is in alignment with the Strategic Plan.
+ Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Federal Programs or Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Valid WV Teaching Certificate with a Masters Degree, minimum.
+ Ten years of successful classroom teaching experience/instructional leadership
+ Documented experience presenting professional development in data-driven instruction
+ Documented experience in improving school/classroom performance using data
+ Strong written and communication skills.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of instructional strategies.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of classroom management.
+ Strong organizational skills to develop on-going, sustained engagement with administrators and teachers. .
+ Criminal history check of new applicants for licensure as per WV Code 18A-3-10.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/ technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
