The primary responsibility of a faculty member at VHCC is to provide quality instruction. VHCC faculty are expected to excel in teaching strategies, classroom and clinical management that fully engage students in a classroom, laboratory, or online platform, and engage students in individual related activities. VHCC faculty help students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to build stronger citizens within the community.
Full-time teaching faculty members are responsible for teaching courses offered in traditional, hybrid, and distance learning formats. Full-time 9-month faculty positions carry a normal teaching load of 12-15 credit hours and 15-20 contact hours per semester. Faculty members also serve as faculty advisors, serve on school/college committees, participate in curriculum development, and maintain currency in their discipline.
VHCC faculty are expected to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports in a timely manner; teach the courses using established texts; conduct requisite student conferences; hold required office hours; attend to assigned school and college duties; contribute to the development of the program of instruction; adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college policies, procedures, and regulations; answer emails in a responsible manner; maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization; and advise students.
This 9-month ADN program faculty member will focus on the part-time and evening cohorts. The successful applicant must be willing and able to teach and supervise clinical experiences during the evening and weekend time slots.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Qualifications Required:
Master's degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution;
Active, unexpired Commonwealth of Virginia licensure as a registered nurse with no restrictions is required as a condition for hire and for continued employment. If current licensure is with another state or is not active, then you must be able to obtain or renew licensure with the Commonwealth of Virginia
At least two (2) years of full-time direct care client experience. Part-time experience will be converted to its full-time equivalent
CPR certification for Healthcare Providers (AHA)
Ability to meet the instruction standard of ACEN for qualified Master's prepared experienced registered nurse for teaching campus and clinical labs and didactic
Ability to teach assigned evening and/or weekend classes
Ability to teach various courses in the designated discipline/field of study
Ability to teach in traditional, hybrid, and distance learning formats
Have knowledge of and be able to serve as a faculty advisor, conduct requisite office hours, and conduct student conferences
Ability to serve on assigned committees and participate in curriculum development
Additional Considerations
Experience teaching/supervising associate degree nursing students in a clinical setting
Previous academic experience such as classroom teaching, online teaching, and/or curriculum development in a community college setting and/or career technical center associated with healthcare program
