Boeing Global Services is a rapidly growing segment of the Boeing Company, and C-17 Global Integrated Sustainment Partnership (GISP) is a key program within it. The GISP Program provides sustaining engineering in multiple engineering disciplines. This Avionics/Flight Controls Cognizant Engineer position will provide support for the C-17 Weapon System including electronic systems, navigation, flight controls, datalink systems and other core avionics functions.
This engineer will primarily provide direct support of the C-17 Weapon System, but will likely grow into support of additional Boeing aircraft. Specifically, in this role the candidate will perform activities related to sustaining engineering for assigned C-17 LRUs - including technical coordination and interface with pertinent Boeing suppliers, investigate field issues and develop resolutions, obsolescence management, analyzing LRU failure and repair data to recommend actions, and support hardware and software modifications.
Additionally, the candidate will support Avionics and Flight Controls troubleshooting and problem resolution for aircraft in Depot level maintenance and modification at San Antonio; and coordinate and facilitate Avionics and Flight Controls on-aircraft activities at San Antonio including on-aircraft investigations, equipment check-out, demonstrations, and testing.
Position Responsibilities:
Develops and documents moderately complex electronic and electrical system requirements.
Develop hardware, software and interface specifications.
Tests and validates to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.
Assists in monitoring supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements.
Solves problems concerning fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle.
Researches specific technology advances for potential application to company business needs.
Basic Qualifications:
Currently possess a Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
2-3 years professional experience
2-3 years Experience with electrical hardware, basics of navigation, flight controls and general avionics troubleshooting experience.
Excellent communicator, exhibiting an ease with interfacing and working directly with customers and C-17 pilots
Experience doing system analyses
Ability to work across the hardware-software boundary
Ability to work independently or as part as a team
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with Avionics Engineering
Experience with MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429, and Ethernet communication protocols
Experience with Flight Management Systems (FMS), flight test, and computer architecture
Bachelors degree with Electrical Engineering and/or Aerospace Engineering
