About the Opportunity: The 2nd Assistant Engineer operates and maintains marine boilers and mechanical equipment such as, steam heaters, motors, and pumps, to provide power and utilities such as propulsion, light, heat, and power for the vessel. Equipment may vary per vessel. About You: This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody American Queen Voyages\xe2\x80\x99 RESPECT Service System. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Stand watch during specified periods, observing all equipment and engine room mechanics, depending on vessel (could be 1st Shift, 2nd Shift or 3rd Shift)
  • Oversee fuel loading and transfers
  • Supervise fireman/oiler while reading meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions
  • Support adequate record keeping of data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, pressure, water levels, and boiler load balance
  • Adjust manual controls or override automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges; switch to back-up equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment
  • Inspect and audit equipment at periodic intervals to ensure no malfunctions and utmost safety standards
  • Report any detected malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication
  • Repair machinery using hand and/or power tools
  • Maintains awareness of all fire, safety, and emergency procedures
  • Performs other duties if required since above stated describe only a regular working day and may not be inclusive of every task needed to achieve results
  • Participate and ensure participation of all USCG mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed
Requirements & Qualifications: Education:
  • HS Diploma or Equivalent Required
Professional Certification(s) or License:
  • USCG License as a Unlimited Second Assistant Engineer beneficial; minimum HP requirements vary depending upon vessel.
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) \xe2\x80\x93 if applicable, and/or ability to
    obtain and maintain
  • Valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License
  • Valid MMC
  • Copy of DD214, if Veteran status
Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner
Experience:
  • Two years of experience required preferably within the maritime industry
Physical:
  • Must submit to and pass mandated USCG physical
  • Ability to meet and maintain the maximum onboard bunk bed capacity of 300 lbs.
  • Ability to conduct work in a marine environment that is subject to some/all the following: confined spaces, uneven surfaces, variations in temperature, wake, and motion
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders

Other:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident/incident testing.
  • This position pays $375/day worked
  • Additional requirements may be required depending on the physical needs of the role
