This position provides training to assigned individuals and to document daily results of their services in Meadowview Cottage. Training needs are identified and recommended by the EDA\xe2\x80\x99s in conjunction with the Interdisciplinary Team. Training needs include pre-vocational and vocational skills, pre-academic and academic skills, self-help skills and sensory stimulation, socialization, leisure time activities, domestic arts, and communication. This is required in order to assure individuals are trained and cared for in a consistent manner. This includes, in part, conducting training sessions, behavioral intervention, etc. The employee receives instructions, both verbal and written, from on-site supervisor. Independent work is encouraged with periodic consultation with supervisors. Murdoch Developmental Center Policy Manual, Personnel Policy Manual, Intermediate Care Facility, Murdoch interdisciplinary process, and professional journals are used in carrying out the duties. The work is checked through routine program monitoring, random observations, and periodic review of all written materials. There is regular verbal communication with all interdisciplinary team members to develop appropriate individual plans, discuss concerns of individuals, and/or to discuss general training issues. Physical effort may be strenuous when dealing with non-ambulatory and physically impaired individuals. The employee must also intervene with individuals who are extremely agitated.
Work is performed in a residential cottage setting. Work can be hazardous when trying to intervene with physically capable individuals who are agitated or out of control. Employee may be exposed to communicable diseases; however, infection prevention policies and procedures are in place to reduce risk. Wheelchairs, lifts, special protective devices, and adaptive equipment are used.

Hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance, paid sick/vacation/holidays, retirement, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
To receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form. Qualified applicants must document on the application that they possess all of the following:

• 
  Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities/or mental illness.
• Working knowledge of basic health care, hygiene and safety.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively and follow both oral and written instructions.
• Proven ability to report information both orally and in writing.
• Valid driver\'s license.
• Ability to obtain and maintain all facility required training (CPI, CPR, First Aid, and other job-related training).

Management Preferences:
Experience in utilizing de-escalation strategies with individuals.
Demonstrated ability to implement behavior support plans.
Prior experience in assisting individuals in educational and/or vocational programming.

Physical Requirements:
Position requires successful completion of the Murdoch Developmental Center "Basic Training Series"; which includes, but is not limited to program library training, First Aid, North Carolina Intervention Techniques (NCI), CPR, Body Mechanics and lifting. Applicants must have the ability to pass a physical requirements test.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Associate\'s Degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution
or
high school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of directly related experience
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Required Training or Certification - As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

CNA is not required for this position.
