A youth mentor with Family Support Unit (FSU) acts as a positive role model to guide young people toward personal growth and independence . The mentor builds a supportive, consistent relationship with at-risk youth, helping them navigate challenges, set goals, and connect with community resources. A core part of the role is maintaining appropriate boundaries while helping youth with life skills, emotional regulation, and educational goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Relationship building: Establish and maintain a trusting and dependable relationship with assigned youth, providing companionship and emotional support.
Case management and planning: Help youth identify and work toward goals by developing, implementing, and updating individual achievement or goal plans.
Life skills development: Coach youth on a range of daily living skills, such as financial literacy, career readiness, and independent living skills for those transitioning out of foster care.
Educational support: Assist with academic achievement, monitor school attendance and grades, and provide tutoring or homework help.
Resource connection: Link youth and their families to necessary community resources, including social, health, and mental health services.
Advocacy and collaboration: Act as a liaison between the youth, their family, school, and other agency staff. Attend meetings and court hearings to advocate for the youth's best interests.
Crisis support: Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques when needed.
Administrative tasks: Maintain accurate case notes, files, progress reports, and other documentation required by the agency.
Actively Participates in staff meetings and treatment team meetings, offering relevant input and feedback and accepting such from the team
