Summary:





The Youth Mentor / Activity Leader is responsible for facilitating recreational, social, life skills and academic support activities for youth participating in adolescent clubhouse activities


Shift:

Monday-Friday 10:30am to 6:30pm with, on average, one shift 12-8pm weekly and 1 weekend shift monthly.


Pay range:

$18-$22/hour


Major Areas of Responsibility:




Provides an environment for both clubhouse participants and staff that promotes asset development and protective factors for youth while minimizing risk factors Maintains documentation per agency quality assurance procedures and established recovery support performance standards. Acts in a professional role within the program to promote the mission, ethics & brand promise of the Walden agency.

Outcome Measures: Ensures agency outcome measures & key performance indicators are achieved. Service Excellence: Promotes service excellence through the use of best practice standards & continuous quality improvement. Customer Service: Promotes a good working relationship with internal and external customers that foster Walden's Strive for 5 standards.

Responsibilities:




Provides individual academic support to youth via general tutorial and homework help for middle and high school-aged students. Facilitates activities supportive of life skills, positive social interaction and recreation/wellness. Provides strength based wellness and recovery supportive dialogue either individually or in peer support groups that increases developmental assets and protective factors. Works collaboratively with the individual, agency staff, & other relevant stakeholders to actively identify and support linkages to full engagement in center activities. Provides shift coverage of the adolescent clubhouse as scheduled, to include rotation of evenings and weekends. Communicates with supervisor regarding customer needs as appropriate. Adheres to all policies, procedures & regulations. Attends & actively participates in staff meetings & trainings as needed. Responds appropriately to the cultural differences of staff, clients, residents, & referral sources. Maintains a positive work atmosphere that promotes Pyramid's culture. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:




HS diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license with clean driving history & willingness to travel locally at least 75% of the time. Previous tutorial or recreational aid experience, experience working with youth ages 12-18, or training preferred. Obtained or willing to obtain specialized training in: Trauma Informed Care, behavioral health peer support services, & wellness topics desired.

Must have ability to read, write, & communicate well verbally. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office & social media. Broad knowledge & experience in academic topics occurring in middle and high school curricula. Working knowledge of the behavioral health system & documented commitment to the recovery community.

Demonstrated ability to:


Use appropriate judgment & conflict resolution. Effectively problem-solve using designated tools & methods. Meet/exceed organizational goals/deadlines. Interest in obtaining CPRS (Certified Peer Recovery Specialist) certification, as applicable, is considered a plus

Training Requirements:





All COMAR mandatory trainings required within 30 days of hire & as needed. Completion of on the job training checklist within 30 days of hire. Mental Health First Aid or Youth Mental Health First Aid within 6 months of hire. All Agency training requirements.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk & hear. The employee is often required to sit or stand, reach, bend, & move about the facility. Normal, corrective vision range ability to see color & to distinguish letters, numbers, & symbols. Must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry ten (10) pounds. Clubhouse staff often engage directly in sports with youth or supervise sports.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud & indoors. This position will frequently occasionally travel locally as needed to meet position expectations. This position will be scheduled based on operational need & will be required to provide own transportation. Incumbent may be exposed to virus, disease, and/or infection from clients in the work environment. Incumbent may be exposed to traumatic situations (i.e. psychiatric).
