These are some of the things our Youth Development Specialists do:

  • Assist in planning and implementing engaging and age-appropriate activities for students, including games, arts and crafts, sports, and educational projects.
  • Support and guide students in developing positive social skills, promoting teamwork, respect, and inclusion among participants.
  • Collaborate with other Youth Development Specialists and the Site Coordinator to create and maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere that fosters personal and academic growth for students.
  • Ensure the students we serve are learning positive behaviors, providing guidance and appropriate corrective action when needed.
  • Accompany and supervise students on field trips and off-site events, ensuring their safety, well-being, and engagement.
  • Maintain a safe environment by being alert to the needs and problems of individual students and responding to urgent situations when needed.
This is what the schedule looks like:
  • This role is typically part time with shifts from 2:30pm-6:00pm Monday to Friday. Late start times may be available depending on the location.
  • This role can easily be combined with other duties and responsibilities within our organization to create a full time role.
  • We are currently hiring for after school programs at the following elementary schools:
  • Brandon Valley School District: Brandon Elementary, Fred Assam, Robert Bennis, and Inspiration.
  • Sioux Falls School District: Anne Sullivan, Eugene Field, Harvey Dunn, Laura B. Anderson, Rosa Parks, and Susan B. Anthony.
  • Harrisburg School District: Adventure, Explorer, and Journey.
  • We prefer our staff to have consistent schedules and we are closed nights and weekends \xe2\x80\x93 having a life outside of work is important!
  • We are looking for Youth Development Specialists to start now, or at the end of summer. Candidates are encouraged to apply now, even if they can t start until Fall.
Here s what we can offer for pay and benefits:
  • Starting pay for this role is $15.00 per hour.
  • Discounted childcare rates for dependents are available. All full time employees are eligible for a 65% tuition discount. Based on household income and household size, employees may also be eligible for our general scholarship program, which covers up to 100% of the cost.
  • We offer a wide variety of benefits including four different medical plan options, dental, vision, 401(k) with a matching program, employer paid life insurance, voluntary life insurance, short-term and long-term disability plans, and more! Eligibility requirements must be met which is based on number of hours worked per week.
  • Employees working 25+ hours a week are eligible for paid time off, which starts on day one and has no waiting period.
  • A valid CPR certification or the ability to obtain and maintain CPR certification within 90 days of employment is required. CPR training and certification is provided in-house by Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire.

We have some great trainers that can teach you a lot, but there are a few things we look for in our Youth Development Specialists:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are important when working with youth.
  • Reliability is essential \xe2\x80\x93 the students in our programs depend on our team members to be on time and have good attendance, because the quality of our programming and their care is not the same when our team isn\'t there.
  • We will completely train the right person, but any previous experience, education, or training in early childhood development and behaviors is very helpful.
  • Valid CPR certification or the ability to obtain and maintain CPR certification within 90 days of employment. We provide this training in-house if you are not currently certified!
  • Our job offers are contingent upon a post-offer screening process which includes, but is not limited to: a background check, child abuse and neglect screening, and drug screen.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire is the largest childcare provider in South Dakota serving 1,200 youth from 4 weeks to 18 years of age daily. We are a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, but we are our own company. This makes us unique since we have support from a national brand, but we are also a local organization that focuses specifically on the needs of the Greater Sioux Falls area.
