Job Description


General Summary of Position
The X-Ray Technologist performs a full range of diagnostic radiographic examinations to include routine, emergency room trauma, operating room procedures, lithotripsy, portables and fluoroscopy. These functions are carried out in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital\'s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs full range of diagnostic radiographic examinations in the department as well as ancillary areas.
  • Ensures that radiation safety precautions are taken when necessary.
  • Provides basic information to patients and/or families concerning procedures to be performed.
  • Assists the Radiologists in performing special radiological examinations.
  • Assists with the upkeep of x-ray equipment, adheres to all related safety requirements and reports need for equipment repairs.
  • Operates hospital information and computer programs including digital radiography systems.
  • Transports patients to the Emergency Room when necessary.
  • Participates in orientation and other opportunities for learning as delegated for the department, other Hospital staff and students.
  • Exemplifies Guest and Staff Relations in all activities.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all inclusive.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Must be a graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology.
Experience
  • 1-2 years hospital based experience preferred
  • 1-2 years skills in operating stationary and mobile X-ray equipment and in instructing others in proper use required
Licenses and Certifications
  • ARRT Radiography Certification or must be registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have basic knowledge of radiographic theory and techniques, good knowledge of specialized and complex radiographic procedures.
  • Ability to work under stressful and emergent situations.
