Duties

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, Office of the Director, in Washington, DC.

At the full performance level (GS-12) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: * Evaluates the content, format, and organization of documents submitted by staff to the Director, Deputy Director, or other senior officials in the Department.
  • Obtains, analyzes pertinent information; determining the most logical and effective sequence of the narrative; determines the overall length and tone based on the objectives, the medium, and the audience; and writing the material.
  • Ensures compliance with good writing practice and conformance with established policies and guidelines.
  • Reviews documents for uniformity, logic, clarity of expression, and edits/rewrites phrases without changing original meaning.
  • Prepares pre-briefing material for the senior leaders as necessary.
  • Independently disseminates procedures and policies to Bureau staff and assists with training staff on matters of correspondence procedures and processes.
  • Enhances the correspondence program, while managing the network of BSEE correspondence liaisons.
The Office of the Director has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

GS-11: $78,592 - $102,166
GS-12: $94,199 - $122,459

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

To qualify for this position you must meet A, B, or C defined below for the grade to which you are applying.
GS-11
A. To qualify for the GS-11, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: * Experience writing and editing documents; and
  • Publishing concepts, standards, and technologies.

OR

B. Possess 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

C. Possess a combination of graduate level education beyond the first 2 years of progressive graduate study and appropriate experience that together meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

GS-12
A. To qualify for the GS-12, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: * Experience writing and editing scientific papers or environmental documents;
  • Publishing concepts, standards, and technologies;
  • Developing and monitoring short- and long-range plans for news, feature stories, information products, articles and images.
(MUST MEET AT LEAST TWO OF THE THREE ABOVE)
