TITLE:
Wound Care Specialist RN
JOB OVERVIEW:
This position is responsible to provide direct patient wound care as well as consultation with the wound care interdisciplinary team, nursing staff, and providers regarding wound and skin services and will provide education to patients and families. This position will also work collaboratively with educators to maintain and enhance clinical staff competency in the care of patients in this specialty.

Typically Monday - Friday; hours may vary based on department needs. Some evening, night and/or weekend work may be required.
REPORTS TO:
Director, Inpatient Nursing
PREREQUISITES:
Licensed in WA State as an RN, required.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing, preferred.
Minimum two years' experience in wound and skin care, preferred.
National certification as a wound and skin nurse specialist within one (1) year of hire
Current BLS certified by the American Heart Association, required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Able to use word processing, graphic and database computer programs, and email.
Evidence of excellent communication and training skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form in the English language.
Knowledge of billing and coding requirements in accordance with hospital, state, and federal regulations.
Document in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations
Knowledge of adult learning principles
Knowledge of quality improvement processes
Experience in nursing leadership and staff consultation.
Experience with evidence-based practice and standards development.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional development of all ages served.
Able to handle multiple demands and competing priorities; meets deadlines and commitments.
Ability to collaborate and work in a multidisciplinary team environment.

B. Essential Responsibilities and Competencies:
Serves as consultant to wound ARNP, nursing staff and providers regarding wound, and skin services.
Provides education to staff, patients, and families.
In collaboration with the wound ARNP provide direct patient care services to patients in the area of specialty.
Participant in routine patient care rounds.
Demonstrate continuing clinical competence and confidence in specialty through certification maintenance, continuing education, and work performance.
Consistently demonstrates calm, efficient, and professional demeanor; and is tactful and positive in all interactions.
Function as an expert in assessing, planning, evaluating, and revising the plan of care for patients with skin/wound problems.
Work collaboratively with educators to maintain and enhance clinical staff competency in the care of patients in this specialty.
Participates in equipment and supply education and training for staff.
Facilitate learning experiences for student nurses and others.
Participates in the development of evidence-based policy, procedure, and protocol related to clinical program specific to specialty.
Promote national practice standards from professionally recognized organizations and specialty organizations.
Utilizes chain of command appropriately.
Markets and provides informational updates to referring physicians/LIPs in the community.
Apply evidence-based practice to enhance and broaden the scope of clinical practice and assist with implementation of practice changes in the hospital.
Participates in the selection and evaluation of new products and devices in specialty
Serve on appropriate committees and advisory boards at VMC and in community.
Participate in the development of new programs to improve patient care.
Participate on quality teams related to specialty.
Participate in continuing education to ensure professional growth.
Contributes to the development and implementation of educational services and programs in response to demonstrated need.
Monitor use of resources related to specialty.
Use all information available to monitor trends in resource use.
