The Cancer Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, to join a multi-disciplinary team. Th

Job specifics:

  • After evaluating the patient, and depending on the complexity of the problem, the APP may decide to recommend treatment, admission, order further testing or refer the patient to another appropriate provider or another level of service (ie: ER)
  • The APP will evaluate urgent care patients from coming home or clinic in an attempt to prevent ER visits. It is expected that the primary team contacts the infusion APP before sending the patient to be seen as urgent care patient.
  • The Provider will manage the reaction in the infusion center
  • The provider will independently order labs and diagnostic tests and independently interpret or in collaboration with physicians.
  • The provider will prescribe medications, do patient teachings, and coordinate admission or transfer to the ER.
  • The APP will directly contact the primary oncology attending or the covering attending with questions or concerns.

Qualifications
  • Master of Science Degree with completion of an appropriate primary acute care or adult Nurse Practitioner program. Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland. Certified in area of specialty. DEA and CDS eligible
  • BCLS as required
  • Demonstrated ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient\xe2\x80\x99s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters. Demonstrated/documented effective interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience in oncology, emergency medicine, or critical care highly preferred.
  • Maintains updated hospital safety and other mandatory training.
  • Updated immunizations as recommended per practice area
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program.
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Current Maryland License.
  • Credentialed according to Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • At least one year clinical experience preferred.
