Activities Aide

Reports to: Director of Activities

Summary

This is a casual position that provides residents hands on assistance with all scheduled activities in both a group and a 1:1 setting. Must be comfortable moderating and/or directing weekend activities.

Must be available on Saturdays and Sundays.

Qualifications

Some experience working with the elderly required.

Must pass NYSDOH Criminal History background check.

Education

Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ability to work efficiently both independently and in a group setting.

Must be able to maintain focus in a high demand and fast paced environment.

Ability to construct and provide visual examples of all necessary activities.

Must be able to meet and maintain program demands, ensuring all daily activities run as scheduled.

Employee should be creative, allowing for quick modifications ensuring residents receive equal opportunity in meeting their needs.

Ability to work weekend hours.

Must document and track the activities of the residents as desired.

Needs to be able to maintain and keep record of inventory of supplies for activities.

Transports residents, when necessary to and from activities.

Promotes residents' rights, assists Residents to make informed decisions, treats Residents with dignity and respect, reports suspected abuse or neglect, and supports independent expression, choice and decision-making.

Applies hand washing principles during daily work, demonstrates understanding of isolation precautions, complies with the employee health program, demonstrates understanding of the process for identifying and handling infectious waste, maintains personal hygiene, complies with OSHA standards in the work place and demonstrates understanding of cross-contamination.

Language Skills

The employee must have the ability to read and analyze documents in English. They must have the ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from family members and residents alike.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is often required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.50 per hour

Expected hours: 2 - 6 per week
