Job Summary

The Water & Sewer Maintenance Worker 1, under general supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks involved in the construction, maintenance and repair of sanitary sewerage and water systems; performs related duties as required on pump stations, wastewater treatment plants, and other components of either water or sewerage systems of the District.

Responsibilities

Places barricades and safety equipment around construction area; Breaks up pavement with air hammer; Digs and backfills holes and trenches and reinforces excavations as required; Makes repairs to sewer and water lines, manholes and hydrants; paints hydrants; Operates valves; assists in the operation of pressure sewer cleaner; Operates air compressor, backhoe and truck as required in the performance of duties; Obtains various supplies as directed. Performs general maintenance and repair tasks on buildings, structures and grounds including unskilled labor and custodial tasks; Performs other miscellaneous duties as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge of excavation and construction work related to water and sewer line repair, hazards and safety precautions of the work; Skill in the operation of tools and equipment used in the work; Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, perform a variety of heavy manual tasks in all types of weather conditions. Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the work; Routine janitorial methods and techniques; Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, and perform a variety of heavy manual tasks in all types of weather conditions. Ability to lift heavy objects (manhole covers), climbing and standing for extended periods.

Training and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or G.E.D. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks in all types of weather conditions. Possess a valid Sate of Ohio Commercial Drivers License (CDL). New hires must obtain a CDL within the probationary period. Must complete Operating Training Course of Ohio or equal in wastewater collection or water distribution within 18 months.

Pay: From $27.59 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
