The Piedmont Triad Regional Council (PTRC) seeks a diligent, independent member to join our team for the position of Water Resources Planner.

Your efforts can help to ensure clean drinking water for over 1.6 million people. The Piedmont Triad is home to three of North Carolina\'s major river basins. Additional water resources planning helps to ensure tributaries and riparian assets improve water quality and support local food production and manufacturing, recreation and tourism, as well as native wildlife. The PTRC is the lead regional organization for the 12 counties of the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina. Primary duties include:

  • Providing services to member governments in the area of water quality and watershed planning on specific projects in the 3 watersheds in the region, stormwater plans and other state and federal funded water and air quality efforts.
  • Assisting the Stormwater Program coordinator on the strategy around stormwater education and media services.
  • Applying for and Managing grants to support water quality planning, stormwater and utility system improvements.
  • Administration of Upper Cape Fear River Basin Association for permitted wastewater utilities.
Additional duties may include supporting project managers on other environmental initiatives including disaster resilience, air quality, long-range land development plans; transportation, pedestrian, and bicycle plans; and greenway and open space preservation plans. Individual should provide technical assistance with grant writing and project management for water related projects. Employee will occasionally work with an intern and/or volunteers, e.g. community partners or non-profits) to carry out these services and will be required to work in the field, on-site some days.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor\'s degree in natural resource management, environmental services, planning or a related field with minimum of 3 years\' experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Position requires superb verbal and written communication skills to interact with a variety of individuals including co-workers, local government staff, granting agencies, general public, and elected officials. Successful candidate will possess general knowledge of local and regional planning principles and practices and demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff and contractors. Ability to work independently, while managing several projects; review information for accuracy and consistency; interpret regulations; determine when to seek guidance from superiors; and possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Familiarity with data processing using Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) necessary. Knowledge and skills using ArcGIS are desirable. Successful candidate must pass organization\'s pre-employment drug screen and organization\'s background screening process. Valid NC driver\'s license required. Travel throughout 12-county region is required to carry out program duties. Other travel may be required on occasion.

SALARY RANGE: Starting salary $50,233.28 is dependent upon credentials and experience. PTRC offers competitive salary and excellent benefits including Local Governmental Employees Retirement System (LGERS).
