Water Plant Operator / Operator Trainee

About the Role
The
Water Plant Operator / Operator Trainee
is responsible for operating, monitoring, and adjusting treatment processes during assigned shifts to ensure compliance with all procedures, regulations, and safety standards.
The job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine plant rounds by inspecting, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance-testing treatment systems
Read and interpret gauges, charts, analyzers, computer interfaces, and instrumentation
Operate and adjust pumps, motors, feeders, and other process equipment
Maintain and update operational logs, reports, and process calculations
Add treatment chemicals as required and document usage
Collect and record plant samples; perform routine process control laboratory tests
Conduct general plant and grounds maintenance, including cleaning and upkeep of facilities
Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders, forklifts, and dump trucks to assist with unloading chemicals
Follow strict internal and regulatory guidelines, safety protocols, and environmental regulations
Work scheduled weekends and holidays; participate in an on-call rotation approximately every fourth week

Qualifications
------------------
Minimum Qualifications:
Operator Trainee: High School Diploma/GED
1+ years of related experience or Operator Trainee experience in operating and adjusting pumps, motors, inspecting, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance-testing treatment systems, or related systems
Valid Driver's License
NC Grade 1 (or higher) Biological Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification ( "OR" the ability to obtain within 24 months of hire).
Prior experience with Microsoft Office software
Preferred Qualifications:
NC Grade 1 (or higher) Biological Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification * - ("OR" the equivalent certification from another state that has a reciprocity agreement with the Association of Boards of Certification.
