Job Description

The Waldo County Bounty (WCB) Program Manager will oversee, manage, and strengthen the core programs of WCB - Veggies For All (VFA) Gleaning, Give & Take (G+T), and Farm to Pantry. Primary tasks include program execution and expansion; data collection and analysis; new program development; volunteer recruitment, training, and management; working with community partners to expand our programming and build in efficiencies where needed.

This position will support the WCB Director, Communications Coordinator, and Board with fundraising and organizational development tasks in order to advance the organization. This position is a mix of "on the ground" work - i.e. supporting the transportation of food, leading gleaning harvests during harvest season, direct communication with volunteers - and significant remote work, including networking with community partners, expanding and developing new programming, and volunteer outreach and coordination. The person in this position will work closely with WCB's two other staff members but is expected to be self-directed and able to work independently.

Hours:

Average of 24-32 hrs/week throughout the year. Hours vary seasonally with more activity during the growing season and fewer during the off season. Working hours can be flexible but we hope for someone who is able to commit occasional nights/weekends and is available to respond to calls and emails as needed.

Wage and benefits:

$25/hour, annual health stipend, annual cell phone stipend

Position Requirements:

Strategic planning, development, and management skills Experience with tracking data and evaluating program impacts Strong relationship building and communication skills Knowledge of produce safety and general familiarity with safe produce harvesting and storage Ability to lift 30-50# totes and be physically active for gleaning events Working cell phone to communicate with farms and volunteers using the WCB Google Voice number Working vehicle, clean driving record, and the ability to drive a vehicle with trailer Proficient with Google suite products, Microsoft Office, etc, familiarity with Little Green Light a plus, web hosting & social media Experience in program and volunteer management Ability to work remotely, self-motivated and able to work independently with little day to day supervision Ability to anticipate program needs and set priorities

Supervision:

This person will be supervised by the WCB Director.

Responsibilities:

General Organization Support:

Manage, oversee, and strengthen the programs of WCB - Gleaning, Give & Take, and Farm to Pantry. This includes coordination of all on-the-ground food access programs and serving as the primary point of contact for volunteers, farmers, gleaners, and other partners. At times, this requires being on-call to support volunteers, e.g. during gleaning events, Farm to Pantry distributions, etc. Create and maintain a volunteer team that supports all programs of WCB Attend committee meetings, as requested Network and participate in regional or statewide convenings with other gleaning organizations and food access programs Support social media activity of WCB as it pertains to position responsibilities, e.g. volunteer coordination, including taking photographs of on-site, in field activities, and work with communications coordinator on social media storytelling, posting, and strategy. Provide project and organizational support to WCB, as needed and determined by WCB leadership team and supervisor Be responsible for annual volunteer recognition events and ongoing volunteer retention efforts. Work with the Board on fundraising to meet program sustainability goals, as requested

Food Access Program Management:

VFA Gleaning:

execute all gleaning operations, including: Coordination and execution of in-field gleaning harvests with volunteers Create efficient systems for pick-up and delivery of harvested food to and from farms and food access agencies Coordinate volunteer management, including Gleaning volunteer recruitment, retention, risk management, and supervision in-field providing thank you correspondence to key volunteers, farmer/producer partners, charitable supporters, and others as needed Coordinate gleaning partner management, including communications and scheduling with farmers, food businesses, and other partners Coordinate hunger relief partner management, including facilitation of drop off, transportation, and distribution support of harvested foods Complete data tracking and reporting on all areas of gleaning operation, including harvests, clients, volunteers, spending, staffing, and other relevant points to support organizational impact measurement, planning, and grant reporting Explore and seek out outlets for excess produce to have a positive impact on the community Ability to delegate/coordinate delivery of produce through potential volunteers Brainstorm creative ways to distribute and utilize excess produce, i.e. processing events in partnership with local programs, etc. Provide content pertaining to gleaning, including photos and messaging (when applicable), in conjunction with other WCB staff for social media, newsletters, fundraising, and other WCB storytelling needs

Give & Take:

Recruit, train/orient G+T volunteers Maintain communication with G+T coordinators to ensure sites have the support and supplies they need Coordinate with volunteers at gleanings to deliver produce to G+T sites and other access points across Waldo County Manage the delivery of seedlings and seeds to G+T sites in the spring Keep G+T planning spreadsheet up to date Maintain a list of G+T supplies inventory, deliver or coordinate the delivery of supplies to sites as needed, including sheds Assist with G+T Committee meetings and help identify priorities for new sites Assist with marketing and outreach efforts related to G+T Build/paint/deliver signs and sheds with volunteers Support Grow-A-Row effort that identifies gardeners to dedicate their harvest to G+T Provide content pertaining to G+T, including photos and messaging (when applicable), in conjunction with other WCB staff for social media, newsletters, fundraising, and other WCB storytelling needs

Farm-to-Pantry:

Coordinate with Daybreak Growers Alliance on deliveries and schedules of Farm to Pantry produce Develop efficiencies in storage, transportation and deliveries Track Daybreak Growers Alliance deliveries to food pantries & soup kitchens, recording total pounds delivered and dollars spent, and running analyses from the results Ensure equitable distributions amongst food pantries based on frequency of service and number of clients served Be primary point of contact with all food pantry and hunger relief organizations for feedback, scheduling, and troubleshooting Support Communications Coordinator in annual food pantry survey to acquire program feedback, and make adjustments to programming accordingly Provide content pertaining to Farm to Pantry, including photos and messaging (when applicable), in conjunction with other WCB staff for social media, newsletters, fundraising, and other WCB storytelling needs

Secondary and Developing Programs:

Seedling to Pantry:

Support annual planning for Seedling to Pantry purchases and distributions Primary point of contact for food pantries receiving seedlings from WCB Coordinate seedling distribution schedule with food pantries and Villageside Farm Recruit, orient, and coordinate with Seedling to Pantry volunteers and with Villageside or other farms providing seedlings for all seedling sorting, labeling, transport, and distribution Direct support with seedling labeling, sorting, transport, and distribution

Food Council:

Collaborate with the Board to develop and plan food council programming that seeks to bring together key members of the Waldo County food system, and engages the public in our programming Attend monthly meetings with Maine Network of Community Food Councils and participate in their programming and growth

County Garden:

Continue to develop relationship with the County Garden to encourage growth in a direction that is supportive of both community needs and WCB's goals Recruit, orient, and manage volunteer presence at the County Garden to support food production, gleaning, and distribution

Additional 2026 Goals:

Increase gleaning events and amounts with an eye toward expanding crop diversity and timing Recruit & communicate with new volunteers to orient them to our work, create year-round opportunities for volunteer engagement Deepen connections with area organizations doing similar work and find ways to collaborate Expand the Give & Take program to the four outlying towns that don't currently have sites Evaluate and increase the amount of food donated to G+T stands, specially through cultivation of relationships with farmers and homesteaders Improve data collection strategies for gleaning, Farm to Pantry, and G+T programs Build efficiency in volunteers supporting the on the ground tasks within WCB programs
