The Volunteer Coordinator, under the direction of the Chief People Officer is responsible for the overall direction and coordination of the volunteer program. The Coordinator is responsible for recruitment, screening, training, and assigning volunteers for all settings. Additionally, the Coordinator is responsible for the supervision, recognition and retention of volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator and Chief People Officer work together to plan and implement activities related to the volunteer program.

I. Essential Functions/Performance Factors
Assigns volunteers as appropriate and maintains patient files.
o Place volunteer within 5 working days of request.
o Make necessary telephone calls to assign patient/family support volunteers.
o Update patient care plans and volunteer narratives, as appropriate.
o Schedule Care Center volunteers.
o Work with VP of HR & Administration to assign volunteers for health fairs and special projects.
o Compile initial volunteer file.
o Monitor existing files for needed updates (i.e. Mantoux, OSHA education)
o Work with other Volunteer Coordinator to schedule in-services.
o Work with the Education and Infection Control Coordinator to schedule needed Mantoux tests, OSHA education, etc.
o Assign volunteers to help in bereavement department.
Supervises activities of all volunteers and conducts appraisal evaluations.
o Identify and develop talents and skills of all volunteers.
o Assign volunteers to complete duties as needed.
o Ensure that volunteers are provided with rewarding activities which are appropriate to their identified talents and skills.
o Check volunteer work for accuracy.
Provides appropriate volunteer orientation and training consistent with Medicare standards and tasks to be performed.
o Provide training according to geographical needs.
o Provide training specified by policy for patient care and bereavement volunteers.
o Provide appropriate instruction to office and teen volunteers.
o Provide volunteers with an annual in-service.
o Provides volunteers with annual self-study.
Recruits and retains Volunteers sufficient to provide administrative and direct care equal to 5% of paid clinical hours.
o Document recruitment of volunteers.
o Maintain a personnel file on every volunteer.
o Conduct an annual evaluation of patient care, office, and bereavement volunteers.
o Plan an annual recognition and other types of recognition and support for volunteers.
Maintains volunteer statistics.
o Keep statistics on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
o Keep statistics regarding total number of volunteer visits and volunteer hours.
o Keep statistics regarding monetary value of volunteer time.
o Keep statistics for Whispered Wishes.
Oversees and promotes non-traditional volunteer programs and special projects.
o Provides for appropriate volunteer training.
o Facilitates Whispered Wishes.
o Collaborates with VP of HR & Administration to schedule Advocacy Committee meetings and topics.

o Coordinates all Risograph projects.
o Assigns Volunteers for Light up a Life campaign.
o Works within budget constraints.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is exposed to outside weather conditions when traveling between sites. Patients' home environments are variable with regard to heat, noise, air circulation and conditioning, space, cleanliness, accessibility and all other environmental factors. Inpatient and skilled nursing facility environments are standardized. Office environment in a controlled atmosphere building.
