Position Summary:
The Volunteer Coordinator is a full-time, Exempt, 40-hour week position. This position requires a flexible schedule with some evening and weekend hours. Position will serve as one of the trainers when volunteer training programs are in session. Position will have some occasional statewide travel to promote volunteer opportunities that HeadQuarters offers.
The Volunteer Coordinator will be the main point of contact for the organization's volunteers. This position will serve as a clinical supervisor to crisis counselors (both paid and volunteer). This position will also serve in the Clinician on Call rotation that supports crisis counselors. This position will report directly to the organization's Crisis Services Director.
Job Duties:
The Volunteer Coordinator at HeadQuarters Kansas is responsible for guiding all aspects of the volunteer experience for the organization. The position's primary focus is to seek and create opportunities to recruit, train, mentor, supervise, and schedule the volunteers for the organization.
Position Expectations
Completion (current or eventual) of in-house Crisis Counselor Training
Completion, preferred, or timely completion of other related trainings such as Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
Quality written and verbal communication skills for the purpose of documentation and effective communication with colleagues
Quality conflict resolution skills, including providing direct and compassion feedback, and effective use of supervision.
Effective strategies for managing compassion fatigue and symptoms of burnout, along with a willingness to seek supervision and support from the organization
Promotes healthy relationships & boundaries, ethical practice, and a kind demeanor in the workplace and as a representative of the organization in public
Must pass State & Federal criminal background checks

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in human services-related field (e.g. social work, psychology, applied behavioral science, sociology, etc.);
Experience providing supervision or management in a job or volunteer setting;
Able to work flexible hours (including some evenings and weekends);
Demonstrated ability to utilize computers and proficiency in Microsoft Office software
Strong time management, organization and detail orientation, strong training skills and ability to provide feedback in a constructive and positive manner.
Preferred Education and Experience
Master's degree in social work (MSW);
Preference for LMSW (or equivalent), or ability to be licensed;
Relevant crisis counseling experience.
Essential Duties
Recruits, interviews, screens, trains, and supervises volunteer staff;
Assists crisis counselors during onboarding and training
Serves as the point of contact for any needs during their volunteer time within the agency;
Develops and implements strategies and prepares materials to attract and recruit volunteers, including outreach efforts, partnerships with community organizations, and online recruitment;
Develops and implements strategies to improve volunteer retention and reduce absenteeism;
Coordinates the schedule of volunteers in collaboration with the Crisis Services Director and monitors attendance and adherence to shift commitments;
Track and ensures all Volunteers are up to date with required trainings.
Maintains current suicide prevention knowledge and best practices through lifeline partners and attendance of workshops and seminars to promote professional development and reduce burnout;
Send weekly and monthly volunteer communications to all Volunteer Staff for staffing needs, agency news, and new opportunities;
Maintains files, records, applications, and other data concerning volunteer program;
Assists with volunteer appreciation events and recognition initiatives;
Perform other tasks as requested by the Crisis Services Director.
