GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Provides a variety of direct and referred services in a program for persons with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities, including vocational counseling, training, employment, and referrals for medical care. This position will work with students with disabilities in the transition from school to work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
  • Interviews and assesses clients to determine needs and abilities.
  • Interprets medical and psychological evaluations to determine eligibility.
  • Provides clients with an overview of services provided and what they may be eligible for to ensure client-informed choices.
  • Utilizes vocational assessment and information, along with rehabilitation counseling, to support and empower clients to achieve empowerment and independence.
  • Develop a rehabilitation plan in conjunction with Physicians and monitor client progress.
  • Works with clients to develop an Individualized Plan for Employment with clearly defined employment outcomes, criteria needed to evaluate progress toward achieving employment, client responsibilities, and counselor responsibilities.
  • Collaborates with local school districts and other educational institutions to provide transition services to students and youth.
  • Works with employers to find suitable opportunities for clients.
  • Provides job coaching skills and training to support the client's move to employment.
  • Provides post-employment services to clients needing short-term services to enable them to retain current employment.
  • Conducts financial needs and resource assessments to determine if the client will be required to participate in the costs of the rehabilitation program.
  • Provides counseling during the clients' rehabilitation program to ensure that all clients' needs are being met.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to candidates who are qualified to sit for the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) exam.
Preference may be given to candidates with knowledge of local employers and educational institutions.
Preference may be given to candidates with experience using Google and Microsoft software.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of industrial, commercial, and professional occupations suitable for disabled persons.
  • Knowledge of available training facilities and employment opportunities for a variety of occupations.
  • Knowledge of the psychological and social issues of the disabled.
  • Knowledge of client data collection.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to the area of specification.
  • Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation programs and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the services offered by various community organizations.
  • Skilled in creating and conducting presentations.
  • Ability to track and maintain monthly expenses related to client needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Counseling or Social Services)
Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Vocational Rehabilitation)
