The Village of Mendon is seeking a full time Village Manager to serve the needs of our community. The ideal candidate is a civic minded individual with an exemplary work ethic and a willingness to learn new skills and master new technologies as Mendon moves forward into the 21st century. JOB DESCRIPTION

The Manager will be considered an employee of the Village Council, answerable directly to the Village Council. The Manager must have administrative and executive abilities. The Manager will be responsible for executing the administration of the Village and ensuring compliance with other local, state, or federal statutes.

The duties of the Village Manager include, but are not limited to-

Director of Personnel for the Village

Act as Chief Administrator of the Village Submit required reports to the State of Michigan, MDOT, and federal government as needed. Act as streets Administrator Act as Finance Officer, working with Treasurer, CPA, and other personnel Work with the Treasurer and Council to prepare and administer the Budget and monthly Financial Reports. Act as the purchasing agent of the Village, including for the DPW. Act as Grants Administrator for the Village as needed. Propose relevant policies to the Committees or Council regarding Personnel, labor, permits, etc. Attend all meetings of the Council, the Planning Commission, the DDA, and may take part therein but cannot vote; Act as an ex-officio member of all committees of the Village Council without a vote. Hiring, discipline and dismissal of Village employees. Make recommendations to the Council for the adoption of such measures as may be deemed necessary or expedient for the improvement of the Village. This may include ordinances, amendments, resolutions, policies, etc. Carry out Council Policy in a professional manner. Stay updated on regulations at local, federal, and state levels to ensure Village Compliance. Act as representative of the Village whenever the need arises or at the request of the Council. Act as Public Relations, and receive citizen request/feedback and route such to the proper authority. Maintain all correspondence to and from the Village, except when otherwise designated. Communicate happenings to the Village Council. Communicate Village Policy and upcoming maintenance items to the public.
Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate must have:

A thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of local government including Organizational forms and structures Budgets and contracts Operating methods/procedures. Good understanding and familiarity with ordinances, zoning and planning issues. Excellent Administration skills including Communication, not only verbal and written but also across various social platforms Team and relationship building across different levels of local, state and federal government. Able to maintain and engage several projects at once, from planning to completion. Diplomatic approach to problem solving and issue resolution. Inter and Intrapersonal skills Ability to multitask and handle multiple issues simultaneously. Self motivated and proactive. Ability to organize, manage and motivate groups toward problem solving. Technical Ability Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications Working knowledge of Social Media Applications and proper engagement protocols Willingness to learn and adapt new technology as it becomes relevant/available.
Experience

Bachelor's degree preferred; commensurate experience will be considered. Minimum 5 years of increasingly responsible senior management experience in municipal government OR other governmental agencies OR comparable leadership and management experience in public, non-profit, or private organizations. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven leadership record.
