MINIMUM/ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in social work or related field plus two years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 6 years.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Vietnamese, Karen, Cambodian or Lao
  • Flexible schedule may include evening or weekend hours at times. Must have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license, vehicle, and vehicle insurance that meets the limits prescribed by CUHCC.
  • High-level communications skills in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work with patients and staff from diverse cultures, languages, and backgrounds.
  • Capacity to lead and wor on a team and make positive contributions to the team.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office experience and ability to learn and effectively utilize clinical documentation system.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience establishing partnerships with multiple agencies.
  • Experience being self-directed in carrying out program goals.
  • Experiencing working with people from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Hmong fluency preferred.
JOB DESCRIPTION \xe2\x80\x93 VICTIM ADVOCATE

OVERVIEW
CUHCC\xe2\x80\x99s mission is to seek health equity in our community by advancing the well-being of diverse people. This position provides advocacy and outreach services for Sexual Assault / Domestic Violence within the Community Mental Health Department at CUHCC.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This is a non-supervisory position and there are no positions reporting to this position.
The position is funded through a grant from the Office of Justice Programs, State of Minnesota.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PERCENTAGE FOR EACH FUNCTION
Provide direct advocacy services
  • Crisis Intervention: Assess and assist patients identified as experiencing domestic or intimate partner violence in navigating crisis situations. This includes connecting patients to crisis resources, such as domestic violence shelters, COPE, and emergency services.
  • Safety Planning: Develop safety plans with victims around prevention of future abuse, communication methods with outside supports, and plans for leaving abusive situations. Assess for patterns of power and control, and develop plans around these patterns to mitigate risks.
  • General Services: Provide transportation and referrals to safety and/or emergency housing for victims who request assistance. Provide information and/or rides to food resources. Provide crisis counseling for immigrant and refugee women. Assist women/victims in developing and implementing a personal safety plan.
  • Information and Referral: Provide clients with necessary information and referrals to services such as free legal assistance, services for children, connections to medical services, transitional housing and information on victim reparations. Provide follow-up counseling by phone or in person.
  • Court Related Advocacy Services: Provide transportation to court; assist with arranging child care services, assistance with vulnerable adult and child abuse petitions. Provide assistance filing temporary restraining orders and provide emotional support during court procedures.
  • Legal Advocacy: Provide legal advocacy to victims of SA/DV. Advocates will help fill out victims\' reparations as well as provide referrals to Legal Aid and CUHCC\'s on-site legal clinic.
  • Support Groups: Plan and conduct peer support groups for patients engaged in DV advocate services. This can include activities to foster social connection, build community, learn new skills, and share knowledge.

Staff development
  • Attend trainings as assigned. Trainings will be in areas of interest and professional growth for the staff such as impact of trauma, therapeutic interventions, mental illness, family health and functioning, victim\xe2\x80\x99s rights and services, and cross-cultural communication.
  • Staff Development/Supervision: Consult with supervisor, peer advocate or behavioral health and/or medical providers as needed to manage client issues.
  • Training and Onboarding: provide training and onboarding to new victim advocate staff, and conduct shadowing sessions with student learners and new staff in other roles at the clinic.

Community Education and Outreach
  • Distribute outreach materials at community education and professional education events as assigned.
  • Create and conduct presentations on domestic violence, sexual assault, and related topics to CUHCC staff and other agencies to spread awareness and build community connections.
  • Sit on panels and community outreach events, answer questions regarding domestic violence and sexual assault, and represent the clinic to the broader public.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other community organizations that provide culturally relevant legal, mental health, housing supports, shelter, and other related services.
Maintain Partnerships with other Agencies
  • Partner with various social service agencies and DV/SA advocacy providers to exchange referrals, share program information, and provide outreach information to people who have been victims of DV/SA.
Reporting
  • Report key metrics as required by grants and CUHCC policies. Complete evaluations, meet with the funding agency representatives, and administer surveys to clients. Provide written reports and summaries of key metrics, milestones, and achievements periodically for grant reporting and accountability.
