Job Description

Job Summary:

The Veterinary Technician will play a critical role in providing high-quality medical care to animals and support to veterinarians within our organization. This position requires extensive veterinary technical skills, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to compassionate animal care.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Care:

Assist veterinarians in diagnosing and treating animals, performing routine and emergency medical procedures, and providing general and surgical nursing care.

Technical Skills:

Perform tasks such as administering medications, vaccinations, anesthesia, and intravenous fluids; conducting lab tests; taking and developing radiographs; and monitoring anesthesia and recovery.

Animal Handling:

Safely and humanely handle animals, including restraining, lifting, and transferring them for various procedures and treatments.

Client Communication:

Educate clients on animal health, preventative care, treatments, and post-operative instructions. Provide exceptional customer service and build positive relationships with clients.

Team Leadership:

Mentor and train junior veterinary technicians and support staff. Lead by example, promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.

Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all patients, including treatment plans, progress notes, and communications with clients.

Compliance:

Ensure all activities and procedures comply with state and federal regulations and veterinary standards.

Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years TECH experience to qualify for this position. Working knowledge of computer systems and veterinary software.

Physical Factors:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and over 50 lbs. with assistance Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous and fractious animals, high noise levels, wet surfaces, hazardous chemicals, and sharp objects Long periods of standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and working outdoors in differing climate may be required
