Veterinary Assistant/receptionist

Austin, TX, US, United States

Job Description

We are currently accepting applications for a part-time receptionist/administrative assistant/veterinary assistant to work very closely with a solo, small animal, housecall veterinarian and their practice clientele. Our practice offers non emergency, mobile, cat and dog housecall services in the greater Austin area. Hours fluctuate based on demand but typically require a start between 9-10am and finish around 3-4pm Monday through Thursday. We are not currently seeing appointments on Friday, Saturday or Sunday but some administrative work from home will be required on these days.

CURRENT ASSISTANT IS AVERAGING 20 HOURS PER WEEK. Administrative duties are expected to be fulfilled within business hours although some of this work can be completed remotely from home. These hours are subject to change and frequently vary depending on demand and type of calls we are seeing on a given day. We begin and end the work day at my home office in the University Hills neighborhood in northeast Austin (78723). We visit up to 2-3 locations per day and on average 4-6 pets per day. Appointments follow a casual tempo and are often 1-2 hours in duration depending on the services provided.

The ideal person for this position is a self starter, excellent communicator with technical and computer (Apple products) proficient skills (we use electronic medical records on Apple laptops and online third party scheduling software). Excellence in spelling, typing, grammar and communication with clients on the phone. This position requires returning incoming phone call and email communications, scheduling appointments through an online scheduling system based on geographic location, ordering medications for home delivery through online distributors, strict attention to detail and mild to moderate animal restraint skills for exam assessment and blood draw. Applicants will need their own personal transportation to get to my home office prior to starting the workday. This position requires a fair amount of administrative history/note taking during appointments and routine animal restraint for exam, vaccinations, blood draw but there is also opportunity to perform basic phlebotomy and other diagnostics as well as a fair amount of client education. This practice focuses on preventative care such as responsible vaccination, behavioral modification, nutrition, and preventative diagnostics as well as treatment for geriatric conditions and minor sick pet evaluations. We do not currently offer anesthetic surgical or dentistry services and have no requirement for skills in general anesthesia.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and averages between $18-22/hr and about 16-24 hours a week. We offer benefits of discounted veterinary services, paid time off after 6 month probationary period, and six paid major holidays as benefits. We are also flexible to accommodate reasonable, unpaid time off requests with reasonable (2 week) notification.

Please reply with a brief description of your qualifications and attach a resume.
