We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join our team. Our assistants are a vital part of our team as they are the ones that help the Veterinarians and Technicians carry out treatments and help ensure the safety of people and pets alike. We need someone reliable with a great work ethic, a team player, and someone who has passion and dedication for the animal medical field. Looking for someone who can handle the ups and downs that come with taking care of animals and can handle themselves in a professional manner throughout it all. We want someone who is as dedicated to the care of our clients and patients as we are.

Position type and expected hours of work

:

Part-time (3 days a week) 10-hour Shifts (Tuesday & Friday) 6-hour Saturday shifts required

Pay is based on experience; minimum starting at $15.00 per hour

Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Starting rooms and preparing patients for the doctors to see. Obtaining fecal, blood and urine samples to send out to lab, or run on in-house equipment. Restraining animals in a safe and effective manner. Helping Veterinarians and Technicians carry out patient treatments. Maintaining a clean/organized/safe hospital environment. Educating clients on basic information. Explaining discharge instructions to clients. Basic monitoring of patient vitals and conditions. Basic understanding of common parasites and their symptoms and treatments. IV catheter placement and fluid therapy. Basic understanding of emergency situations and how to handle them. Making our clients and patients feel as happy and comfortable as possible.

Skills:

Basic computer skills. Great communication skills. Multi-tasking. Team player. Basic animal behavior knowledge. Taking clear and concise notes on patients' health and treatments received.

Physical Requirements:

Able to lift 50lbs, and anything other 50lbs with assistance. Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions:

May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, animal urine and feces, and possible bites, scratches and contagious diseases. Client conflicts may arise; able to handle difficult situations in a professional manner.

Experience:

At least one year of

working

with animals. Schooling appreciated. Will train the right person.

Other Requirements:

Able to stay past closing if needed. We are a busy clinic and sometimes our responsibilities keep us after hours and we try to leave as a group when the work is done.
