Job Description

West Russell Animal Hospital is a fast paced animal hospital that is looking for the right individuals to join our treatment staff! The Veterinary Assistant's primary job is to support our veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians in their daily work schedule. You will be interacting with all staff to ensure consistent, safe, and appropriate patient care.

Job Duties:

Under direct supervision of a licensed veterinarian or licensed veterinary technician.

Provides compassionate care to patients. Performs all duties in accordance with hospital medical policies and procedures. Assists with physical examinations; report observations on patients. Assists a licensed veterinarian in surgery or monitoring anesthesia Admits and discharges patients on the doctor's orders, ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state. Monitoring of vital signs. Assisting in Radiographs and ultrasounds. Restraining pets for the veterinarian to examine.

Personal Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate that is able to thrive under pressure and prioritize well. Must have a strong love of animals and be motivated to provide the best possible experience for our clients and their pets. Has excellent client communication skills. Physical Effort: Work requires lighting and carrying animals up to 40lbs. (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40lbs). Walks or stands for extended periods of time; frequently works in a bent position Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases. Must have open availability as this is a full time position.
