Overview:

Role Summary

The Lead VA/LVT plays a vital role in supporting hospital operations by providing leadership, training, and hands-on technical expertise within a large, fast-paced veterinary team. This position works closely with the Hospital Manager and Doctors to ensure high-quality patient care, efficient workflow, and a positive, collaborative culture. The Lead is responsible for mentoring team members, maintaining clinical standards, and promoting consistency in patient handling, client communication, and team performance. A successful candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, compassionate, and committed to helping the hospital and team grow together.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to the veterinary assistant and technician teams. Support onboarding, training, and ongoing development of team members to ensure consistency and growth. Maintain high standards of patient care, safety, and hospital cleanliness. Assist doctors with examinations, treatments, anesthesia, dental procedures, and surgical support. Oversee daily workflow to ensure efficiency and effective use of team resources. Model professional conduct, teamwork, and a positive attitude in all interactions. Communicate effectively with doctors, reception, and management to ensure seamless coordination of care. Assist with creating and maintaining training materials, protocols, and checklists. Monitor inventory, equipment maintenance, and hospital organization. Participate in performance feedback, scheduling input, and culture development initiatives. Ensure adherence to hospital policies, protocols, and safety standards. Provide compassionate client education and support during all stages of patient care.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED certificate Flexible schedule including some weekend and holiday shifts Knowledge of medical procedures and animal handling Must possess strong communication skills, good judgment and be able to manage stressful situations, and work with others on a team respectfully Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
