Job Description

We are looking for a full-time EXPERIENCED Veterinary Assistant to join our team! There is potential to move into a surgical assistant position within a couple of months.

Our top priority is to provide compassionate care to pet patients. We continually train and encourage our team to learn more and go on to vet-tech programs and vet school. We work on employee development and training continuously to ensure confidence, safety, and competence in the work we do. Starting Pay Rate:

$20 - $25/hour. More experience or knowledge will have a higher starting pay rate. We prefer to hire someone who will be comfortable with surgery in the future.

Job Type:

Full-time. We are not hiring for part-time positions right now.

Schedule:



Monday to Friday, and every other Saturday Must be able to work a mix of evening and morning shifts. Must have reliable transportation and if you do not live within 15 minutes of the worksite, must be comfortable with commute as we are located in a high traffic area.

Job Responsibilities:



Must care for all cats and dogs equally, no matter the breed. As well as treat all clients with compassion and respect.

Holding these values; providing compassionate care, good customer service, and providing expert knowledge to owners Ensuring that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable Triaging patients Assisting veterinarians during appointments to provide compassionate nursing care Collecting samples for lab work, giving injections, administering subcutaneous fluids, taking x-rays, and basic grooming Cleaning, maintaining, and preparing supplies and equipment Maintaining accurate medical records Filling prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian, and explaining prescription directions Assisting with checkout procedures, such as scheduling, and collecting payment Performing various laboratory tests Suggesting dietary products, vaccines, and other services to clients Keeping our facilities clean and well maintained Performs other duties as assigned to keep the hospital running smoothly

Desired Knowledge:



Basic animal restraint, grooming, or basic animal medical care preferred Eagerness to learn about the field or relevant education

Additional Requirements:



While we have powered lift tables, you must frequently lift 40 pounds and handle large dogs on leashes Must be able to be on feet eight hours per day (we give you sitting breaks, of course) Must be able to stand, walk and climb stairs frequently Based on our experience, we may immediately reject employees who live more than 45 minutes away due to unpredictability of traffic and weather. If given the job, will your commute be less than 45 minutes? (We may give an exception for an exceptional candidate.) Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to disinfectant/sanitation chemicals, animal dander and excretions Must be able to work under stress and pressure, at times.
