We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant and Technician to join our veterinary team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic clinical environment, providing essential animal care and support to our veterinary professionals. The ideal candidate will have experience in animal husbandry, veterinary procedures, and excellent animal handling skills. This position is vital in ensuring the health and well-being of a diverse range of animals, including pets and equine patients. Prior veterinary clinic experience is preferred, and candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of veterinary terminology and animal physiology.
Duties
Must be skilled at venipuncture and catheterization
Assist veterinarians with clinical procedures, including medication administration, and animal restraint
Perform animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, grooming, and maintaining cleanliness in kennels and treatment areas
Handle various animals safely, including dogs, cats, and horses, utilizing proper handling techniques
Support laboratory work by collecting samples, preparing specimens, and maintaining laboratory equipment
Manage front desk responsibilities such as scheduling appointments, patient check-in/out, and client communication
Maintain accurate medical records and documentation according to clinic protocols
Assist with aseptic techniques during surgical procedures to ensure a sterile environment
Provide pet care advice to clients regarding animal health, nutrition, and behavior
Support critical care cases by monitoring vital signs and assisting with emergency procedures
Ensure the safety and comfort of animals throughout their visit or stay at the clinic
Qualifications
Prior experience in veterinary assisting or technician roles within a veterinary clinic setting is highly preferred
Kennel experience and animal handling skills are essential; familiarity with dog handling is a plus
Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and laboratory procedures is required
Experience with pet care, animal restraint, medication administration, and aseptic techniques is necessary
Equine experience or working with large animals is advantageous but not mandatory
Strong communication skills for front desk duties and client interactions
Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
