About the Job

We have an opening for a Veterans OnSite Resident Peer for our Health Care for the Homeless Veterans (HCVH) program at our Valor Pass program in Medford, Oregon. The Veterans OnSite Resident Peer will live onsite and share their own personal experiences of homelessness with other veterans. They must demonstrate the ability to develop therapeutic rapport with clients and maintain clear, consistent, appropriate, and therapeutic boundaries.

The Veterans OnSite Resident Peer will encourage socialization, self-help, and community to achieve community integration. They will assist individuals with completing housing applications and moving in arrangements, food purchases as needed, preparation, and cleanup; and with completing housekeeping tasks and maintaining cleanliness of home. The Veterans OnSite Resident Peer will report any suspected violations of clients\xe2\x80\x99 rights or abuse of a client by another client or a staff member according to policies and oar\xe2\x80\x99s regarding mandatory reporting. Such reporting is required for, but is not limited to, suspected incidents of physical assault, neglect of care, sexual exploitation or financial exploitation, which may also include borrowing or removing property from the home.

Work Schedule: ~10 hour per week (Part Time, Overnight and On Call)

What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Make

This position does require living on-site and working 10-15 hours per week On Call in exchange for $600 rent compensation per month (which covers a private bedroom/bathroom with shared kitchen and common space, with utilities paid); plus, a $400 stipend per month.

About the Program

Valor Pass offers short-term, transitional housing in Jackson County for Veterans who are struggling with homelessness. This program can serve up to 10 Veterans, and staff are available 7 days per week with an onsite live-in Residential Specialist.

ColumbiaCare Services is a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. QMHA employees are also eligible to apply for the Oregon Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program.

What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Need
  • MUST be a veteran, preferably with own personal experiences of homelessness
  • THREE (3) years of verifiable experience working with veterans and/or homeless population in a supervised social setting is preferred
  • Eligibility for Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) registration is a plus. Eligibility requires 1 out of 3 Criteria below:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Behavioral Science: Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Human Development, or related field;
  • OR minimum three (3) years of verifiable behavioral health experience working with individuals with behavioral health needs in a supervised setting;
  • OR equivalent combination of behavioral science education in addition to satisfactory supplemental behavioral health experience and training
If not already registered as a QMHA through the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO), we will assist you in registering within 30 days of hire.

Successful applicants MUST have the ability to pass a DHS criminal background check.

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to frequently talk, listen, use hands and fingers, sit, stand, walk, reach; as well as lift, carry, push, and pull up to 40 pounds. It may require the ability to occasionally climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, squat/kneel, and perform other physical tasks as applicable. In addition, you must successfully complete crisis de-escalation and CPR trainings, which require performing various physical, hands-on maneuvers and techniques.
