About the Role
PAWS for Life Pueblo is seeking a compassionate and experienced
Veterinary Technician/Assistant
to join our team
part-time (2 days per week + PRN)
. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by providing essential medical care to homeless pets in our no-kill shelter.
As a Vet Tech, you'll play a vital role in supporting our shelter veterinarian and staff with exams, diagnostics, vaccinations, treatments, and the overall health and well-being of the animals in our care.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with physical exams, diagnostics, and medical treatments under veterinary supervision
Administer vaccines, dewormer, microchips, and prescribed medications
Maintain accurate medical records in Shelter Manager
Provide care for sick or injured animals and assist in post-surgical recovery
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary clinic environment
Manage and track medical supplies and controlled substances per regulations
Transport animals to outside appointments as needed
Communicate professionally and compassionately with staff, fosters, and the public
Qualifications
Minimum 18 years old with reliable transportation
At least 1 year of experience
as a veterinary technician or assistant (required)
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Graduate of a veterinary tech/assistant program preferred
Experience in a shelter environment preferred
Knowledge of PACFA regulations is a plus
Ability to work calmly and efficiently during emergencies
Strong teamwork, communication, and record-keeping skills
Passionate about animal welfare and committed to PAWS for Life's no-kill mission*
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50 lbs (assistance available for heavier animals)
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling
Exposure to animals, odors, and potential bites or scratches
Ability to perform duties safely and professionally in a busy shelter clinic
Schedule & Benefits
