Job Description

The Vehicle Maintenance Technician II/Lead performs advanced diagnostics, repair, and preventative maintenance on the resort's fleet, ensuring maximum safe vehicle availability for all mountain operations. This role serves as a working lead, providing technical guidance, training, and workflow oversight to less experienced technicians while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



Technical & Mechanical Responsibilities:



Perform complex preventative maintenance inspections (PMI), troubleshooting, and major repairs on a diverse fleet, including but not limited to: +

Heavy Equipment:

Snowcats (groomers), Loaders, Excavators, and Skid Steers.

Fleet Vehicles:

Trucks and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs/UTVs).

Specialized Equipment:

Snowmobiles, generators, and small engine equipment.
Expertly diagnose and repair all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and computer-controlled systems. Perform welding and fabrication (steel and aluminum) as required for repairs and modifications. Conduct in-field service and recovery operations for disabled vehicles on mountain in all weather conditions, which may require skiing/snowboarding/snowmobiling to the location. Complete accurate and precise documentation of all work orders and parts usage.

Lead/Supervisory Responsibilities:



Act as the working Lead for the shift, directing the daily workflow, and ensuring efficient operation of the shop Promote a culture of safety, ensuring all team members adhere to shop safety practices, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and Lockout/Tagout procedures. Contribute to shop cleanliness, organization, and tool accountability.



Required:



Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in fleet, heavy equipment, or diesel/automotive repair. Proven expertise in diagnosing and repairing diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems (including complex schematics), and drivetrains. Must possess a valid U.S. Driver's License and maintain a clean motor vehicle record. Must possess a comprehensive set of personal trade tools required to perform major vehicle repairs. Ability to read, interpret, and follow service manuals, schematics, and technical documents. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and act as a reliable lead. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and on-call shifts, often under extreme weather conditions during operating season. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly and stand for long periods.

Preferred:



Certificates or formal training in Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, or Automotive Repair (e.g., ASE certification, manufacturer training). Experience specifically with snow grooming equipment (Snowcats) or other over-snow vehicles. Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with air brake and/or passenger endorsement, or ability to obtain one. Experience working in a ski resort or similarly challenging outdoor/mountain environment. Basic computer skills for work order systems and diagnostic software. Proficiency in welding and metal fabrication.

Working Conditions




Work is performed both indoors in a shop environment and outdoors on the mountain in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, and low visibility. Work involves exposure to noise, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, and chemicals/lubricants. Must be comfortable working at elevation and sometimes on steep or uneven terrain.
