Summary:
Summary
The Valve Repair Tech disassembles, inspects, and reassembles valves for reapplication on tank car pressure plates. The role follows work orders, ensuring repairs meet FRA, AAR, and customer requirements while upholding company guidelines and safety standards. This position works independently with limited supervision and shares expertise by teaching other team members.
Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.Reads and interprets job work orders and maintenance bulletins to perform required valve disassembly, inspection, and reassembly
Coordinates and completes repairs in an efficient manner and within assigned hours
Notifies supervisor of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of job tasks
Interacts with crew members in a team environment, as well as with supervisor
Follows all safety rules, keeps work area clean and complies with all Greenbrier Environmental Health and Safety Policies
Ensures FRA, and AAR and customer quality assurance standards are met
Completes repair tasks at the level of quality expected by Greenbrier at all times to reduce rework and to ensure on time delivery
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Ability to read and interpret work orders
Ability to operate a torque wrench
Ability to work under minimal supervision
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Ability to share their knowledge and expertise by mentoring and training fellow team members to ensure overall team success
Preferred Qualifications
Prior knowledge and skillset to rebuild valves and properly document completed work
Ability to complete interior corrosion inspection on valve body
Ability to perform LEL and oxygen levels, and coil testing
Ability to create pull list of needed valve materials
Ability to complete all valve assembly and lead test activity on tank cars

This position may be exposed to welding, machining, forming, metal surface treatment, laser cutting, plasma cutting, and other metal working and assembly processes.
Additional PPE may be required as determined by the environment.
