The Attorney General and the Department of Justice, collectively referred to as the New Mexico Department of Justice, represent and defend the legal interests and sovereignty of the people of the State of New Mexico. The NMDOJ exercises the responsibilities delegated by the New Mexico Constitution, statutes enacted by the New Mexico Legislature, and the common law. The Attorney General has primary authority representing residential and small business consumers before the Public Regulatory Commission.

To support the goals and mission of the NMDOJ by litigating matters within the utilities space.
How does it get done?
Provide legal counsel and guidance on utilities laws, regulations, and policies to government agencies, departments, and public officials. This includes interpreting utility regulations and rules and providing guidance and recommendations regarding their application.
Represent the State of New Mexico in matters before the Public Regulation Commission, including rate cases, acquisitions, and exemptions.

Minimum Qualification
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law. Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico or qualified to apply for limited practice license (Rules 15-301.1 and 15-301.2 NMRA). Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment as some statewide travel maybe required. Employment is subject to criminal background check and is conditional pending results of criminal background check. Be of good moral character and not have been convicted of a felony offense by a court of this state, any other state or the United States.

Working Conditions include extensive personal computer and telephone use, working in an active legal workplace environment, and potential statewide travel.
