The Used Vehicle Acquisition Manager is a pivotal leadership role responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and acquiring used vehicle inventory primarily through major online auctions such as Copart, Manheim, and IAA. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in vehicle valuation, damage assessment, and repair cost estimation, ensuring each acquisition supports the company's profitability goals. This role requires a robust mechanical and auto body background, enabling accurate appraisal and strategic bidding in a highly competitive auction environment. The manager will oversee both the purchasing and reconditioning operations, coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure the efficient turnaround of over 50+ vehicles per month. Success in this position demands a blend of analytical acumen, operational oversight, negotiation prowess, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance throughout the vehicle lifecycle.
Core Responsibilities
-Vehicle Acquisition from Auctions
Source and acquire used vehicles through online and in-person auctions, with a focus on Copart, Manheim, and IAA platforms.
Conduct thorough pre-bid research, leveraging auction data, vehicle history reports, and market trends to identify high-potential inventory.
Register for and participate in online timed auctions, adhering to all auction protocols and company acquisition strategies.
Establish and maintain relationships with auction representatives, brokers, and transport providers to streamline the acquisition process and resolve logistical challenges.
Perform comprehensive vehicle inspections using digital tools and standardized checklists to assess both visible and hidden damage.
Utilize industry-standard valuation guides (e.g., Kelley Blue Book, Black Book, JD POWER, Manheim Market Report) and auction data to determine fair market value and set maximum bid thresholds.
Document all findings with detailed notes and photographic evidence, ensuring transparency and accuracy in the appraisal process.
Collaborate with internal and external experts (e.g., body shop estimators, appraisers) as needed for complex or high-value units.
-Repair Cost Estimation and Reconditioning Management
Generate detailed repair cost estimates for each prospective acquisition, factoring in parts, labor, and potential sublet work (e.g., glass replacement, paint, frame straightening).
Oversee the reconditioning process from intake to frontline readiness, coordinating with technicians, vendors, and detailers to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs.
Track and manage reconditioning budgets, ensuring all work aligns with company standards for quality, safety, and profitability.
Implement and monitor standardized workflows, leveraging reconditioning management software to reduce bottlenecks and improve turnaround times.
-Operations Oversight: Purchasing and Reconditioning Coordination
Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of buyers, technicians, detailers, and administrative staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for vehicle intake, inspection, repair, and documentation.
Coordinate logistics for vehicle transport from auction sites to the company's facility, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as acquisition cost, reconditioning time, gross profit per unit, and inventory turn rate, implementing corrective actions as needed to achieve targets.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience in automotive acquisition, appraisal, or reconditioning management, with a proven track record of profitable vehicle sourcing and turnaround.
Advanced knowledge of vehicle mechanical systems, auto body repair, and collision damage assessment; ASE and/or I-CAR certifications strongly preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in using digital valuation and appraisal tools (e.g.,JD Power, Kelley Blue Book, Black Book, Manheim Market Report).
Proficiency with reconditioning management software, dealership management systems (Dealer Center, Repair link, central dispatch, super dispatch)
Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret market data and adjust strategies accordingly.
Excellent organizational and communication abilities, including experience leading teams and managing cross-functional workflows.
Valid driver's license and a clean driving record; ability to travel to auction sites and transport vehicles as needed.

Expertise in market analysis, pricing strategy, and inventory optimization, including the use of dynamic pricing engines and real-time market reports.

Strong project management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple priorities, manage deadlines, and drive process improvements.
Experience with digital marketing and online retail platforms is a plus, supporting the integration of reconditioning insights into sales listings.
Compensation, Benefits, and Working Conditions
Competitive pay:
$80,000-$130,000+ annually, commission base compensation

Work schedule, 8:30 am to 5:00pm.
Flexible Scheduling:
