The Urgency Room, operated by Emergency Physicians PA, offers a new and better way for patients to receive emergency medical care. We are currently accepting applications for qualified candidates looking to provide top-quality patient care as a Medical Laboratory Assistant on our clinic medical support team at our 3 locations in Minnesota. We provide great care to patients 365 days a year, so our positions include weekends and holidays.

About this position - UR

We provide a professional, yet fun, work environment while providing fast-paced and collaborative care to patients of all ages.
  • 10-16 beds (dependent on location)
  • Serving approximately 80,000 patients per year
Purpose: The Laboratory Assistant performs basic functions that support the Urgency Room laboratory with an emphasis on customer service. The position is trained to complement the clinical support services with direct patient care to cover one or more of the following areas: laboratory reception/intake, specimen collection and performing waived point of care testing; the processing of specimens, and laboratory supplies replenishment. The Laboratory Assistant will be trained to perform specific laboratory tasks including assisting in specimen testing, equipment maintenance, and recording of test results under the general guidance of a laboratory technician, technologist, or scientist.

Key Result Areas: The primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
  • Perform phlebotomy for blood collections for any age group.
  • Collect specimens for patient testing as directed.
  • Receive and process laboratory specimens as directed.
  • Order and cancel tests in the electronic medical record as directed from the licensed provider.
  • Accurately report test results and properly record all required information in a patient\xe2\x80\x99s medical record.
  • Follow all safety guidelines when handling samples and working in the lab.
  • Restock and maintain appropriate laboratory inventory supply levels.
  • Maintain laboratory documentation of tasks and variances as directed.
  • Communicate pertinent patient laboratory data clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner to the health care team.
  • Assist with tasks as directed by the clinician, clinical support staff, or lab technician/technologist/scientist.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Adhere to clinic policies and procedures.
  • Perform other tasks as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED plus a minimum of 1-year related lab experience or completion of a phlebotomy training program.
