Compensation: $25.68/ Hour ($53,414.40 annual) to $28.31/ Hour ($58,884.80)

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary: This is supervisory and administrative work as the leader of a unit team at a state correctional institution. Work involves supervising and directing a unit staff consisting of corrections counselors and corrections officers. An incumbent is responsible for the total operation of the living unit in assigning, scheduling, and reviewing the work of subordinate personnel and for planning, recommending, implementing, and monitoring treatment programs. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of facility Corrections Counselors, which includes but is not limited to: utilization of risk/needs assessment tool (YLS/CMI), effective case management practices, targeted case planning and behavior management strategies, proper application of motivational interviewing techniques, and other pertinent programs and processes. Provides consultation to multi-disciplinary teams and staff from across various facility departments in order to assist with addressing challenging issues and facility problems related to the youth\'s involvement in delinquent behavior; assists in the facility adjustment and preparation for reentry. Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-based practices in corrections and proficiency in risk reduction skills including motivational interviewing and cognitive strategies. Responds professionally to concerns and complaints, both within and outside of the agency, clarifying and /or resolving disagreements or conflicts effectively, efficiently, and as timely as possible given each situation. Oversight of program planning conference for new youth within an appropriate timeframe of the date of their admission and ensures completion of program review conferences every 180 days according to the policy. Serves as the primary liaison between the facility and those in the community involved in the youth\xe2\x80\x99s progress. Completes monthly reports for parents and Community Corrections with updated information.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences or behavioral sciences, and two years of experience working with offenders in corrections, parole, or law enforcement. Additional experience may be substituted for the required education as determined relevant by the agency. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Independent work experience in corrections counseling and corrections case management.
  • Knowledge of modern concepts and principles related to offender risk management, including Evidence-Based Principles and Core Correctional Practices
  • Certification/knowledge in Thinking for a Change (T4C), Aggression Replacement Training (ART), and/or additional evidence-based programming
  • Certified to administer Youth Level of Service (YLS) assessment and/or thorough understanding of similar risk/needs assessments
  • Knowledge of KDOC policy/procedure, as well as institutional rules and regulations
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver\'s License. Must pass a criminal history records check, DCF Child Abuse and Neglect check, PREA check, TB skin test, UA Drug Test.
