Job Description

Overview:

AAA Life is seeking a Underwriting Assistant to provide comprehensive support to the underwriting team.
This role serves as the primary point of contact for field sales agents, internal associates, and customers seeking underwriting assistance. The Underwriting Assistant also supports Underwriters by ordering additional requirements, handling calls efficiently and collaborating with the team to enhance service quality and meet the expectations of agents and members. Additionally, this position offers a developmental pathway for advancement into underwriting.


Responsibilities:
Managing inbound calls from Life Sales Agents regarding case status and basic underwriting inquiries Conducting outbound follow-ups with medical facilities, agents, and members Performing administrative tasks such as drafting and mailing letters Coordinating Medical Information Bureau (MIB) corrections and detailed responses Printing and mailing facultative cases Respond to agent and member inquiries via phone and email, resolving issues when possible and redirecting them to Underwriters when necessary. Provide underwriting rate class quotes to agents using Reinsurance and AAA Life guidelines. Demonstrate proficiency in the MIB coding process and ensure appropriate routing of work items requiring Underwriter follow-up. Perform administrative tasks such as ordering Attending Physician Statement (APS) summaries and managing sensitive lab result correspondence. Request additional records to support underwriting decisions, including Motor Vehicle Reports and lab results. Prepare and send facultative documents to reinsurers as needed. Under the guidance of Underwriting Management, develop foundational underwriting skills to reinstate Simplified Issue applications in accordance with established policies and procedures. Print and mail manual correspondence and letters. Support external vendors and assist in resolving agent complaints related to vendor processing. Foster collaborative relationships with agents, field management, applicants, vendors, internal departments, and AAA Life leadership to help achieve sales goals. Provide peer support and subject matter expertise on standard procedures and departmental functions. Perform other duties as assigned or as business needs dictate.

Qualifications:
High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred. Completion of LOMA 280/281 and LOMA 290/291 within six months of hire. Minimum of one year of experience in insurance, financial services, or medical industries. Familiarity with life insurance operations, policies, and products preferred. Understanding of insurance contracts, medical conditions, and risk selection factors preferred. Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with colleagues and the public. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet-based applications. Basic math skills, including percentage calculations. * Excellent written communication skills for technical and report writing.
