Outside Plant Underground Crew Lead

Visionary Broadband seeks a qualified individual to fulfill the role of Outside Plant (OSP) Underground Crew Lead and work with Visionary\xe2\x80\x99s underground fiber optic construction team. This full-time, hourly position will join the Fiber team at Visionary Broadband, a division of Visionary Communications, Inc., one of the top service providers in the region. The position can be based out of Visionary offices Casper, Wyoming, with anticipated travel in the surrounding region. This position will report to the Underground Foreman and will spend time also working with regional construction managers in Colorado, Wyoming, and future territories as Visionary expands.

Job Overview:

The Crew Lead will work closely with the Underground Foreman travelling throughout Visionary territories building and maintaining fiber optic plant. They will perform construction on fiber projects with underground elements including but not limited to trenching, boring, drop(s), placing and maintaining handholes, pedestals, and plant maintenance on an existing and expanding network.

A successful candidate must have experience with underground fiber placing specifications and concepts, an understanding of general industry best practices, and a willingness to travel and learn. Visionary is a service provider in varied terrains and with many different types of plant including underground and aerial, as well as fiber to the premise. A successful candidate will have an adaptive and forward-thinking mindset, able to read and red line placing prints, provide critical in-field feedback, and communicate quickly when decisions must be made.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise specific crew operations such as vac truck, horizontal directional drill rig work, or excavation as needed to be completed in accordance with Visionary and industry specifications.

• Operate a variety of hand and power tools, clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erecting scaffolding, cleaning up rubble and debris, and removing waste material

• Accurately perform underground work in accordance with State, County, City, and Visionary standards.

• Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in road/highway environments to prepare worksite for telecommunications cabling

• Locate underground utilities and eliminate potential hazards for cabling work to be completed

• Conduct traffic control near, in, or around work zones

• Perform material handling and storage tasks

• As the job requires, operate all requisite machinery safely to ensure the job is completed

• Accurately report on completed footages on a daily basis

• Resolve in-field complaints in tandem with Underground Foreman

• Review and update daily production reports, material usage sheets, keep track of work hours, complete and maintain accurate \xe2\x80\x9cas-built\xe2\x80\x9d maps for areas built

• Maintain a safe working environment

• In partnership with Visionary\xe2\x80\x99s fleet management team and supervisory staff, oversee vehicle and machine maintenance

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate must possess the following skills, or have equivalent experience and/or qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Knowledge of trenching and shoring according to OSHA standards
• 1 year of experience operating typical telecom construction machinery, such as a HDD Rig, Vac Truck, Mini Excavator, Reel Trailer(s), or equivalent
• 1 or more years of telecom underground construction experience
• A valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and eligibility to obtain a CDL as needed
• Ability to safely drive with a trailer
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• Detail oriented
• Ability to pass a drug test and background screen
• Flexibility to work outside of standard 8am-5pm hours and be willing to travel throughout a large service territory.
• Must be able to lift/push/pull/carry up to 75 pounds
• Must be able to work in various weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, dry, windy)
• Must be able to work in a loud, noise filled environment
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated problem solving abilities

Physical Requirements:

90%+ / - of the time will be spent walking and standing in the field or utilizing construction machinery with various weather conditions.

Visual and audio acuity is essential to this position.
