Job Description


Scott Bridge Company, Inc.\'s roots date back to 1933 when Mr. I. J. Scott (Jud) and two partners formed Scott Construction Company in Thomasville, Georgia, constructing many highways, airports, bridges, and dams in the Southeast. Mr. Scott left this firm in 1957 and formed his own company, The Scott Company, in Opelika, Alabama, his home. The Scott Company incorporated in 1965 as Scott Bridge Company with I. J. Scott and his son, I. J. Scott, Jr. Also in 1965 Mr. Gerard Swarthout came to the company, became company president, and retired in 1987.

Scott Bridge Company has been a member of the Alabama Road Builders since 1947, and became known as a river bridge contractor, completing many projects on the Warrior, Alabama, Coosa, Tennessee, and Chattahoochee Rivers.

Currently Mr. I. J. Scott\'s grandsons, I. J. Scott, III (Ike), President, William Scott, Vice President and David Scott, Board Member, own and continue to further the principles and traditions of their father and grandfather before them.

Position Summary

This position is accountable for a wide array of equipment operations, including but not limited to: Road tractor, lowboy/detach trailers, and drop-deck trailers. Incumbents provide all jobsites with logistical support to ship and receive materials and equipment necessary to conduct building operations. Typically drivers work closely with the Transportation Safety & Compliance Coordinator as well as superintendents to coordinate their efforts.

Responsibilities

*Works as assigned by the Transportation Safety & Compliance Coordinator and/or superintendents

*Operates road tractors with a variety of trailers including drop deck, extendable drop deck, lowboy/detach with or without attachments such as jeep and/or stinger

*Responsible for moving equipment and supplies from the shop location to and from jobsites, as well as jobsite to jobsite

*Performs daily inspections for each vehicle and/or piece of equipment operated for safety and operational integrity

*Assists in loading and unloading of any materials and/or equipment

*Safely navigates on the highway with a variety of loads including some that may be oversize, overweight, over length, and/or over height permitted loads

*Performs simple vehicle maintenance such as monitoring/filling fluids, greasing, changing lights, etc.

*Complies with all FMCSA guidelines with regard to hours of operation, proper cargo securement, etc.

Requirements

Possession of a Class A commercial driver s license with a minimum of (2) years experience in the safe operation of a Class A commercial motor vehicle. Also endorsements for hazardous materials and double/triples are preferred. Eligible candidates must: have a driving record deemed acceptable by company guidelines, understand and be able to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle with a variety of trailers, have a working knowledge of general support machinery such as forklifts, and telehandlers, have a general knowledge of DOT regulations with regard to hours of service, proper load securement, etc., and must also be aware of and follow all corporate safety rules regarding vehicle operation and transportation.
