Job Description

This is semi-skilled manual work involving the pruning, felling and removal of trees on City-owned property and rights-of-way in difficult or hazardous work situations where a comprehensive knowledge of tree removal techniques is required. Work includes work site planning, utilization of proper safeguards, and the proper operation and care of assigned equipment. Operation of heavy equipment required.


Salary: $18.17 - $27.42 Hourly

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:




Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License. Obtain a State of Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver License within 12 months of appointment to the position.

Have experience with the use of tools and equipment used in landscape maintenance and tree trimming. Be able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and work orders. Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.


Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants

:


Have a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.

Have the ability to climb and perform manual work in high and hazardous locations, sometimes in precarious positions and under adverse weather conditions.

Have the ability to manipulate, lift or move heavy equipment and objects.

Have the ability to operate various trucks, winches, front end loaders, wood chippers, power chain saws and other tree removal equipment. Have the ability to walk long hours alone, both indoors and out, under varying work and climatic conditions. Have knowledge of:

o forestry skills, tree trimming, and removal methods and techniques
o occupational hazards and safety precautions required of the work
o use and maintenance of trade related tools and equipment
o the use and care of commonly used climber hooks, ropes, knots and tools
