Job Description

The City of Plattsburgh, New York seeks a candidate for a permanent appointment as a Tree Surgeon at its Municipal Lighting Department (MLD). This position is responsible for trimming and clearing tree limbs and other brush from around live high voltage electrical transmission lines and distribution lines. Removes dead or diseased trees from right-of\xe2\x80\x93ways and is responsible for keeping streetlights and traffic signal systems free from obstructions. Instructs subordinates in the process of safely trimming and removal of trees and keeps records and reports of maintenance activities and equipment usage. The candidate should be experienced and skilled in aerial operations, such as tree climbing. The candidate should have as a minimum an associate\xe2\x80\x99s degree in environmental science, forestry, arboriculture or related field and one year experience in tree care, which will have included tree trimming. Candidate must a valid N.Y.S. Class D driver\xe2\x80\x99s license a time of appointment and must obtain a valid N.Y.S. CDL Class A driver\xe2\x80\x99s license within 6 months of appointment. Clinton County residency is required.
