Job Summary
Under general supervision, at an assigned transportation terminal, on a scheduled shift, assigns Transportation Equipment Operators to runs. Maintains necessary operating records. Supervises other terminal activities and employees.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (may perform other duties as assigned)

  • Assigns runs and maintains records at a transportation terminal.
  • Prepares daily assignment sheets and posts them on bulletin boards.
  • Prepares daily call sheets listing all runs in consecutive order of starting time.
  • Posts run numbers and schedule run time to daily work sheets.
  • Checks call sheets as employees report for work at station windows.
  • Assigns runs of non-reporting regular employees to those on the extra board, assigns regular tripper runs and special runs to extras.
  • Checks the appearance of employees reporting for work, and sees that they are in fit condition to handle equipment.
  • Answers telephone inquiries from the general public related to schedule and service.
  • Maintains a record of schedules, runs, vacations, days off, complaints and other matters.
  • Checks the work of the yard workers, cashiers, and other terminal employees.
  • Confers with yard workers to see that they have the correct information for dispatching coaches.
  • Transmits instructions to other terminal workers.
  • Prepares time worked report for payroll purposes.
  • In supervisor's absence on the night shift, has charge of all terminal activities.
  • Receives lost articles turned in by employees ,and completes proper forms for submission with the article to the Lost and Found Office.
  • Requisitions supplies used in the terminal, including, but not limited to stationery, soap, brooms or mops.
  • At periodic intervals, officiates while Transportation Equipment Operators choose runs.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications(required):
  • High School graduation or G.E.D. One year of training in transportation.
  • Two 2) years experience in several operating phases of a large urban transportation system.

  • Knowledge of terminal activities and transit lines of the Detroit system.
  • Knowledge of urban transportation principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Transportation rules and regulations for Transportation Equipment Operators.
  • Skill in utilizing clerical aptitude.
  • Skill in supervising the work of others.
  • Ability to resolve routine station operating problems.
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with subordinates, other departmental personnel and the public.
  • Ability to pIan and adjust work schedules.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
  • Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
- At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
- At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service. o In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
