The Opportunity
WSF a division of WSDOT is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer 4. This role leads the creation and delivery of all plans and exhibits that bring WSF terminal projects to life--whether developed in-house or with consultants. As WSF's key representative for survey and Right of Way, the position plays a vital part in shaping safe, efficient, and sustainable ferry terminals.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Transportation Engineer 4 will:
Perform as CADD manager for all Terminal Engineering projects.
Manage the Certification of Construction Contract Plans for advertising.
Supervise team members in production of WSF contract plans and other drawing types.
QA/QC of all Consultant and outside agency produced CADD plans.
Coordinate with consultant staff and outside agencies in the preparation of WSF contact plans
Provide Training support to employees learning OpenRoads Design.
Perform as survey expert for WSF.
Uphold WSF's strategic priorities (Service Excellence, Improved Communication, and Empowered People) and values (Serve, Grow, Trust, Respect, and Navigate), ensuring they are embedded in WSF's culture through leadership actions
Qualifications

Proficiency with CADD Software
+ Core to producing, reviewing, and maintaining terminal engineering contract drawings. Directly tied to daily job duties.
Understanding of Contract Plans, Processes, and Details
+ Ensures accuracy and compliance of engineering documents and drawings, critical for project delivery and coordination.
Training & Mentorship Skills
+ Supports staff development by training technicians on CADD systems, ensuring quality and consistency in outputs.
Education/Technical Foundation
2-year technical degree or equivalent experience in CADD, (engineering, computer science, or architecture, etc.)
+ Provides baseline knowledge necessary for technical problem-solving and application of engineering principles.
Data Collection & Reporting
+ Critical for generating accurate reports to inform project decisions, including use of specialized software.
Communication (Oral & Written)
+ Necessary for collaboration with peers, consultants, agencies, and supervisors. Includes preparing memos, letters, specifications, reports, and participating in meetings.
CADD Contract Document Preparation
+ Ability to interpret and apply marked-up information ensures technical accuracy of deliverables.
Integration of Engineering Design into CADD
+ Central to converting engineering design into usable contract drawings for terminal projects.
Software Proficiency (Office & Engineering Tools)
+ Required for documentation, scheduling, calculations, and general office tasks to support project work.
Presentation & Facilitation Skills
+ Important for delivering training, demonstrating software, and presenting technical content to varied audiences.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Advanced CADD Experience (5+ years with AutoCAD/MicroStation)
+ Demonstrates deep technical expertise, enabling higher efficiency and problem-solving capacity.
Project CADD Lead Experience (2+ years)
+ Provides proven leadership in managing CADD deliverables across complex projects.
Specialized CADD Solutions
+ Ability to tailor designs for multidisciplinary engineering challenges enhances project flexibility.
+ Strengthens ability to validate, integrate, and apply geospatial data in project planning and design.
Experience with Aerial Photography & Photogrammetry
+ Enhances accuracy and quality of survey data for engineering projects.
Consulting Contract Preparation Experience
+ Provides skills for developing clear scopes, cost estimates, and deliverables when managing consultant work.
Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD) Familiarity
+ Adds versatility and alignment with emerging industry-standard software. WSF is just starting down this path. The candidate should be ready to become well versed in the use of the new software and be prepared to lead the Terminal Engineering department in outlining its use.
Knowledge of WSF Projects and Structures
+ Ensures quick onboarding and effective application of institutional knowledge in terminal engineering.
+ Required for fieldwork, site visits, and safe participation in project tasks.

This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options.
The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28of the Washington Administrative Code.
