Job Description

Overton ISD is seeking a highly organized, student-centered

Transportation Coordinator

to oversee the daily operations of our district transportation needs. This position is responsible for coordinating routes and schedules, monitoring BusRight, supervising and supporting bus drivers, handling vehicle and trip requests, and ensuring compliance with state and federal transportation requirements. The coordinator works closely with campus administrators, the Business Office, and the Director of Buildings & Grounds to provide safe, efficient, and reliable transportation for all Mustang students.

Responsibilities (summary)



Coordinate daily bus routes, CTE runs, and field trips; ensure all routes are staffed and covered Monitor live routes in BusRight, update stops and rider assignments, and send notifications for late buses Manage transportation requests, vehicle assignments, and the department Google Calendar Support drivers with communication, schedule changes, and route assistance; respond to calls, emails, and radio traffic Monitor elementary and campus transportation change processes and communicate updates to drivers Investigate bus incidents, review camera footage as needed, and complete required reports Maintain driver files, CDL/DOT records, pre-trip inspection reports, and required state reports (TEAL, collision reports, etc.) Coordinate random drug testing, Clearinghouse queries, DL checks, and DOT physicals for CDL drivers Create and update routes annually, ensure all students requesting transportation are assigned to a route, and assist families with questions (including at "Meet the Teacher") Update the Transportation Handbook and transportation section of the district website Prepare, submit, and maintain all required TEA transportation-related reports and documentation in accordance with state timelines and requirements, including the Route Services Report, Transportation Operations Report, and School Bus Collision Report. Ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper record retention for all transportation-related reporting. Participate in safety, leadership, TAPT/ETAPT/Region 7, and other professional meetings and trainings

Qualifications



Required:



High school diploma or GED Valid Texas driver's license Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills Proficiency with computers and software (Google Workspace, spreadsheets, email, calendars, etc.) Ability to work an early schedule and remain available for extended/irregular hours as needed

Preferred:



CDL with appropriate endorsements for school bus operation (or willingness to obtain) Prior experience in school transportation, dispatch, routing, or a related role Experience with BusRight or similar transportation routing software Knowledge of school transportation regulations and safety requirements
