Monday through Friday. Weekend and late night hours are required.



Pay Column M: $19.34/hour - Pay will be spread out over 12 months



Current CDL (Class A or B) required.



Previous commercial vehicle driving experience required.





QUALIFICATIONS:

1 year prior experience in student transportation within the previous 5 years or; 2 years of experience driving a CMV which required a CDL within the previous 5 years.

SUMMARY

: This position, for both permanent and substitutes, is responsible for transporting students to/from school, field trips, or activities. Drivers are responsible for preventative maintenance and coordinating scheduled and corrective maintenance to ensure vehicles are in good operational condition, thus ensuring the safety of students and passengers during transport, and while loading and unloading from buses. Drivers are also responsible for passenger management while operating district buses.

1. Drives a school bus or other district provided vehicle to transport passengers to and from school, field trips, and/or activities in a safe and timely manner. Informs school personnel and parents of transportation policies, procedures, and/or practices (e.g. scheduled stops or changes in those stops, established routes, route conditions, etc.).

2. Follows disciplinary procedures outlined by the Transportation Department and LCSD1 and communicates any issues that may contravene LCSD1 Administrative Regulations, Chapter V, Section 10 to parents and supervisors. Responds to students, parents and/or staff for the purpose of providing the necessary information regarding transportation services.

3. Monitors students and other passengers for appropriate behavior to enforce established passenger safety rules and guidelines. Assist students and other passengers, as necessary, to ensure safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations. Monitor/manage students and other passengers during transit for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.

4. Assess incidents, complaints, accidents, and/or potential emergency situations (e.g. road hazards, medical emergencies, accidents, etc.) to resolve and/or recommend a solution to the situation. Reports observations and incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel for action.

5. Operates and is familiar with lifts, wheelchairs, student safety vests, and wheelchair tie downs when transporting special needs students to ensure these passengers are transported in a safe and practical manner.

6. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicles are safe, operational and in compliance with mandated guidelines. Files condition reports after inspections are done.

7. Operates two-way radios in an efficient manner to communicate with the bus dispatcher and other drivers.

8. Prepares reports (e.g. field trip reports, incident reports, passenger misconduct, mileage logs, student counts, routing, and rerouting information etc.) to document activities, provide written reference, convey information, and/or complying with established guidelines.

9. Cleans and maintains assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of the vehicle.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE

:


High school diploma or equivalent


No experience required



LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS

:


Must be at least 21 years old


Must obtain and maintain a minimum of a Wyoming Class B Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) with P and S endorsements by the conclusion of the district-provided training course


Must obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certificate upon offer of employment


Driver insurability via the district's insurance required


Must obtain and maintain Defensive Driving and CPR/First Aid Certificates by the conclusion of the district-provided training course


Criminal background check required for hire.

Drug and alcohol testing is required throughout employment.

Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals; typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, etc.; and office productivity programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, etc.; preferred at hire; required within 3 months after hire


Operational knowledge of school buses and district vehicles required at the conclusion of the district-provided training course
