Under direct supervision performs general assignments requiring unskilled labor including, but not limited to, the upkeep and maintenance of the transfer station. Performs outdoor activities and assists the public as required to ensure proper and authorized utilization of the facility. Performs a variety of unskilled manual tasks in a safe manner.
Essential Job Functions
Inspects vehicles bringing materials to the transfer station to ensure that they have proper authorization for use.
Directs the general public to the appropriate disposal areas and recycling bins.
Assists residents with transfer of materials when necessary.
Maintains a neat, clean and orderly transfer facility.
Provides instructions, directions, and enforces Transfer Station regulations for users of
the facility. Observes the activities of persons using the facility and stops disposal of unacceptable materials or substances.
Ensures that materials are deposited in the proper location.
Removes and replaces covers on roll-off containers as required.
Keeps work area clean and assists others in the general maintenance and cleanliness of the Transfer Station. May maintain records for the Department.
Follows standard safety procedures and complies with OSHA and other safety regulations.
Performs related work as required.

Ability to assemble and maintain records as needed for operational purposes.
Ability to perform duties requiring the exercise of independent judgment within department policy guidelines.
Ability to perform manual labor.
Ability to work in inclement weather.
Ability to read, write and to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to make simple mathematical computations.
Ability to interact with the public in a positive manner and to work professionally with coworkers, supervisors, customers and the public at large.
Physical and Mental Effort/Environmental and Working Conditions
Will work in the field under variable weather conditions with exposure to hazards associated with the handling of solid wastes, and working near moving mechanical parts. May be exposed to unpleasant odors, loud noises and the handling of solid wastes. May be required to move (push, pull, lift) objects weighing 25 to 150 pounds. Safety hazards are likely to be present and must be avoided. Constant moderate to strenuous physical effort is generally required, including frequent lifting, bending, standing, climbing and walking. Normal eyesight is required to see vehicles moving nearby and hearing must be within normal range in order to detect audible warnings.
Minimum Training and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Two years' experience in manual labor or a combination of education and experience. Experience in customer service or customer interaction a plus. The above list of duties is illustrative.
