The train operator is charged with the safe operation of the train at the Stolley Park Railway. As a train operator, one must be constantly alert in order to monitor both the ride's operation and patrons' behaviors. Train operators also maintain the upbeat, fun environment of the attraction, which add to the enjoyment of the participants.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Recreation Superintendent.
Exercises no supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.
Operate Stolley Park Train for adults and children. Move controls to start and stop equipment guiding and controlling its speed.
Direct guests on and off train.
Enforce passenger safety rules.
Keep log of passenger counts.
Perform daily safety and maintenance check for both the train and track.
Oil, refuel, adjust, and repair equipment. Check all safety restraints.
Collect tickets from patrons.
Be friendly and kind.
Maintain a safe and clean work area.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of
:
Basic mechanical skills.
Good communication skills.
Be tactful and diplomatic.
Customer service experience.
Knowledge of general safety procedures.
Knowledge of the attraction and local area.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency response courses are recommended.
Ability to
:
Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Work evenings, weekends, and holidays and special events, as scheduled.
License or Certification:
None required.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Must be 18 years of age.
Working Hours:
Hours Friday through Sunday 11:00am - 7:00pm will vary depending on department needs but will include working days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
The duration of the position will be April through September.
Salary:
Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table. Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry level qualifications.
