To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
NOTE: INTERNAL POSTING. OPEN TO LAW ENFORCMENT EMPLOYEES ONLY. Under the direct supervision of the Special Operations Major, this position is responsible for wildlife, conservation, and natural resources enforcement work, including, evaluating, maintaining, coordinating, and assisting with administrative, training, and operational functions of all units and programs within Special Operations. Works to maintain consistent practices among the Special Operations work groups related to purchasing, reporting, and training requirements. Completes the quarterly Special Operations Report. Supervises the Special Operations Administrative Assistant position. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree. Graduation from the Texas Game Warden Training Academy.
Experience: Five years experience as a Texas Game Warden from the date of graduation from the Game Warden Training Academy.
Licensure: Must possess a valid class \xe2\x80\x9cC\xe2\x80\x9d Texas driver\xe2\x80\x99s license; Must possess a current license as a peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE); Commissioned as a Texas Game Warden by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon maintaining required licenses and certification
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS: Education: One additional year of the required experience as a Texas Game Warden may substitute for 30 semester hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Instructor certification from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement; Firearms instructor certification from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
Experience: Experience working criminal investigations, evidence collection, affidavits and warrant execution; Experience planning and / or supervising operations involving large scale multi-faceted critical incidents.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of critical incident protocol and policy; Knowledge of statutes, proclamations, regulations and policies related to the enforcement of all provisions of the Texas Penal Code and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Code, and all regulatory acts adopted under the authority of the Parks and Wildlife Code regarding fisheries resources, game animal resources, game bird resources, non-game resources, furbearing resources and provisions of the Texas Water Safety Act; Knowledge of the Texas Disaster Plan, including TPWD and Special Operations responsibilities during a disaster, in order to effectively handle the responsibilities of being assigned to the State Emergency Operation Center during emergencies and disasters; Knowledge of Special Operations and related capabilities; Knowledge of Department policies and Division General Orders; Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook; Skill in effective verbal and written communication; Skill in identifying special I&E program and/or staff training needs, and developing and delivering presentations and/or training material and courses to meet identified needs; Skill in effectively communicating and dealing with other people to achieve work related goals and objectives; Skill in using judgment and sound decision-making skills; Skill in conducting special criminal investigations and investigations in to complaints from the public; Ability to apply agency, state and federal laws, statutes, regulations, proclamations, policies and procedures; Ability to research and organize information to assist in the preparation and monitoring of Special Operation\xe2\x80\x99s budgets; Ability to develop, maintain and monitor correspondence, reports, records, documents and other information; Ability to plan and organize workloads and priorities; Ability to plan, organize and coordinate meetings, including agendas and logistical support; Ability to function as the Division representative in the State Special Operations Centers during activation; Ability to function as the Special Operations Armorer and Safety Officer; Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as necessary; Must reside within 50 air miles of the Special Operations Airport Commerce Office 1340 Airport Commerce Drive Austin, TX 78741; Required to operate a State vehicle; Required to travel 30% with possible overnight stays; Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
